Hi all!
I have a Patrol Mk 1986 SD33T.
When I put it in 4H or 4L its still only in 2wd.
I can see both propshafts moving but it will only drive the rear wheels.
Front freewheeling hubs not engaged.

I did just have a transfer case where it appears there is a bearing problem within the front shaft cluster setup not engaging 4wd even when selected.

You have a process of elimination to do.

I had the same problem with mine, with hubs locked in. One of the springs/engaging mechanism in the hub was not working so all of the drive (open diff) was going to that one hub and not reaching the wheel. pull ya hubs off (10min job) and watch inside as you engage and disengage them, should be an internal tooth sleeve that moves back and forth inside the hub.

if ya hubs both work well i'd give it a big hurumph. works every time

Hi all and thanks for the answers. I'm gonna start with the hubs and go from there. Since english isnt my main language I don't know what a big hurumph is ;) Im guessing it involves some form of violence ;) My hubs are automatic, how do I engage them with them off ?

You can not engage auto hubs manually.
when you unbolt the auto hubs you can check if the axles are driven.
put transfer in 4H and pull handbrake, have someone twist one side of the CV axle and check if the opposite side is turning. if not there is an axle damaged or your spidergears are broken.

This is actually real good info for a noob like me. Many thanks.
Now I just have to get my arse down to the garage and see what happens.
