Hi,

I'm investigating the feasibility if fitting the 6L80 behind a ZD30.
All is good sofar, but I need access to a ZD30 auto converter housing for measuring purposes.
So if anyone in the Melbourne, specifically, the Ferntree Gully area, and is rebuilding their auto, and has the converter housing off, I'd love the opportunity to measure it up.

I now have the convertor housing and flex plate, will be delivering to machine shop Monday for the assessment to mate to 6L80/90.

If you are after a better auto than the RE4R03A, you might not know that Wholesale autos now lists an option to retro fit the RE5R05A (5 speed auto from the 4.8 GU) to ZD30, TD42 etc. Patrols. They have a demo zd30 ute with it fitted.
HGM now do a stand alone Compushift 2 computer for it. I'm sure you could do the conversion yourself and source your own bits to do it heaps cheaper than wholesale.

Just mentioning it because it is a similar option that has recently been done.

Good to know about the RE5R05A
according to the ratio spreadsheet, the 6L80/90 will be within 2kmh @ 2000 rpm in 5th, (86 vs 88 )
with 6th to go.
Nice to have options

Yes but will it have the torque to maintain speed in 6th? If not then u will need diff gears or really be running a 5sp.

Not if it's a standard CRD.

My standard CRD auto doesn't have the torque to maintain 100 up even the slightest incline.

I'd be whacking in the V8 to go with the 6l80 ☺

Fekn waste of time spending bucks on the Nissan thing.

are u sure there is a controller to do the std 6l80
last time I read something it was for a modded 6l80
another thing I also heard is the controller was not for sale retail
anyway things might have changed lately

they are a nice box but if u plan to do abit of 4wding I recon they wont handle high abuse

I know in the holdens if u mod the tune for the auto and get it wrong then the gearbox wont last long
plus these gearboxes are always changing gears which is a pain sometimes
but most these comments are probably to late so take it slowly as u will prob run into a lot of hurdles

It's become a popular Ultra4 gearbox in the US. Work nicely with such a wide gearing spread that you can spec a 1.5:1 transfer case and never have to shift the transfer case. Let the 6 speed do everything from crawling to 120MPH. No wasting time stopping to shift the case.

At those sort of dollars I'd be getting rid of the ZD30 and putting in an LS2 as well.

Have you considered the stronger 6l90e?

And what controller are you planning to use as the compushift is not compatible?

The standard 4spd nissan tbar wont work either so you'll either need an aftermarket t-bar or adapt the 5spd triptronic.

What convertor will you use?.. it will need a very slow stall.

Plus custom cross member.
