I am driving along the highway and am always going for an extra gear - to 6th, but as you know the GU only has 5 gears... is it just me or do other people do the same...

Can you get a 6th gear installed in the GU gearbox???, I have factory gearbox, 42TDI, & factory road rubber with the muddies in the shed.

Or should I just remember what gear I'm in (5th) and leave it at that. at least I'm not trying to put it in reverse, now that would be fun.... NOT...:D:D:D

Funny you should say that, since replacing the exhaust a few weeks ago I have been doing the same thing. A 6 would be nice.

I agree, I feel like finding another gear as well!

When I drive the missus' car I tend to drive around in 4th because it feels like its revving like my patrol in 5th........she often asks if I am going to change into 5th....woops lol

All i know is that i would rather be travelling along the highway doing 110Km and at lower RPM's than 2500-2800, and therfore saving fuel.... so a 6th gear would help... surly there is a kit out there.

just bolt 33's onto it. . . 3.9's are perfect for 33's. iv got 35's on 3.9's and its fine, 100kph at 1950rpm. . . it loves it.

If you can't handle gears buy an auto
only 3ltr and petrols have auto's, not the 4.2;-)

You could always try a slightly larger tyre??

You have a few choices, but a 6-speed isn't one. (perhaps a Hollinger would)
Even in an R34 with the 6-speed Getrag, 6th is just a "normal" overdrive at 0.793:1, the gearing is altered via taller diff ratios.
So you could try for taller diff ratios (expensive) or borrow some big rubber and see how it goes.
I think you'll be surprised how it performs and big rubber won't alter the gearing anywhere near as much as a similar overdrive ratio jump would.
From my experience an engine revving freely under light load will give far better economy than that same engine struggling at lower RPM in a taller gear.
