Does the A/C work under constant load or does it vary as you vary the amount of air you blow (suck?) through it and the temp of that air?

That is, is it worth me turning the blower down (not off) when a comfortable or near comfortable temp in the cabin is reached in order to improve fuel consumption or will it not make any difference. Is the A/C just on working hard or off, nothing in between?

wont make a difference mate. the compressor is driven by a thermostat infront of the evaporater, so it will engauge and disengauge when the temp varies beyond the set level.

cheers

once the cabin is cool turn ing the fan to low will make the compressor cycle out longer as the evap isnt heating up as fast cause of the low air flow, so yeah it will make a small differance :)
on high fan the compressor tends to almost noit cycle at all on hot days as the evap never chills off as well so the copmpressor isd loading up the engine 95% of the time to put a figure to it

Ah right, thanks. I was kind of thinking it might be something like that.
I suppose on long long trips its probably worth while backing it off a bit.

cheers
