The air box lid has a mesh screen in the top of it, I have seen some pics where it looks like the MAF housing has a mesh screen before the MAF as well if that is true do you really need the one in the top of the air box lid as well? it looks like when the air box lid is upgraded or replaced with those billet ones they don't have any mesh in the top, could I get rid of it? seems like it would restrict the air flow a bit.

Couldn't say as I was doing other mods at the same time. Check out GU2's thread though. Plenty of info about it there.

Have not had them in mine for a year now and not found any difference, (other than better air flow).

I was looking at a MAF housing on a VW being set up as a race car it did not have a screen but did have a little honneycomb thing before the MAF, the guy told me it is to smoothe or straighten the turbulence in the flow before the MAF. He also added that you should never have one of those bloody Hiclone things before a MAF sensor.
