Nice idea, but back then I could see this being a pricey exercise and the job could be done by a 4 cylinder jap engine for a third of the cost. Would be overly complicated for the capacity. IMO.

It was interesting reading.

I figured an all alloy diesel was a bit ambitious for back then, they're only starting to make all alloy Diesels nowy.

Yeah I guess like every good engineering ideas you need the manufacturing and materials engineering to go with it. Now that we have high pressure alloy casting and better methods of embedding iron based cylinder liners, this is easier now.

Look up the freelander engine debacle lol.....

Detroit was building all alloy 53 series engines in the sixties.

Theres not really that much weight benefit to them and the lower durability convinced them to stick to all american cast iron.
