Hello

Car is a 2005 GU. Originally ZD3o. TD42 swapped in.
I'm having charging issues. Sent the alt for check and it came back all OK.
Tested the 2 wire plug. I get 12.5 volts on both the yellow/red (sense) and white/green (field) wires.
Issue is, using a test light, I get a very bright light on the sense wire, but a very dim one on the field wire.
Does this sounds OK to you or do you think I have a faulty wire?
If it is a faulty wire, it's just running a new ignition wire? What about the charging light on the cluster?
Any advice willl be greatly appreciated.

Buy a voltmeter.
Check all the wires you can see.
Measure the voltage while the engine is off.
Measure the voltage when the engine is running.

I think the wire you are getting the dim light on is for the battery warning light on the cluster. You would be getting a dim light as you are effectively putting your test light in series with it.

Has this ever worked or are you still building? The alternator on the td has built in reg, so it just needs 12v sense to power the stator. The other wire is just for the cluster.
