Been reading and learning bout turbos on here for a while now and have the option on a complete turbo kit, apparently big turbo, modded injector pump with boost comp fitted, all gear and two TD42 engines - one has appaerently run a bearing and the other got hot and may have cracked head. Turbo has been running 22 psi but wound back to 5 psi.
All for $2000 through a mate. Info is a bit vague at the mo, want to fit turbo to mine, 93 silver top engine only want to run bout 12-15 psi max, maniflod is low mount but I will make a high mount.
Any thing I should be aware of, opinions?
Havnt been able to speak the guy directly yet so have no other info, he is getting rid of deisel and fitting TB42 instead.

sounds like a bargain. I paid more than that to get a pump done.
Just make sure you get someone with a dyno who knows what they are doing with diesels to tune it. theres a reason he blew 2 motors.

I thought its a bargain too.
The pump mods are probly worth 2 grand.
Want to find out more on the turbo - what specs as I would like it to start boosting at low rpm.
Part of reason for buggered engines is he just drives it and drives it hard, without time to warm-up, and the one with the possible cracked head got a bit too hot.
Still dont know if the engine has been stripped and head crack tested but could be able to make one good engine out of two, with a few new parts. Something for me to learn on,[Im pretty good on the tools- sheetmetal fabricator by trade]
Im no mechanic but have some friends that rebuild engines.
After watching threads here a disco potato would be ideal for me.

another 2 cents worth:
Not worth adapting it to a high mount. the ONLY reasons I would do so is if the turbo didnt physically fit next to the engine or if I was too lazy to put a proper oil drain in the sump and wanted to use the alternator vac pump drain instead.
That's where and why the fashion started, with turbo compact japanese cars.
Now people think theres a performance advantage to making your exhaust longer than it needs to be.

Was thinking high mount to help keep turbo up away from as much water and mud as posible

Has anyone fitted a GT3571S to a SerIV 4.2TDi Wagon, i have a new one sitting in the shed and i was thinking of giving it a go... looks like a A/R of around .69????

It has a CAT part number on it - 235-9694, and is also perkins (2674A402) branded.
You will need a lot of fuel to spool that, even with a exhaust a/r that size.
