I have recently purchased a 2002 3.0L diesel Patrol. The radio is the same as the first one shown in the owner's manual so I believe that it is factory fitted and I have seen similar radios in other Patrols.

The radio reception has always been very poor even around town and particularly on AM.

The manual mentions that the Patrol has 2 antenna - the mudguard retractable antenna and an FM booster printed on a rear glass.

I have taken the radio out and have found 2 antenna leads to the rear of the radio - it has a thin lead with a 2 pin plug which is fitted into a 2 pin receptacle in the rear of the unit. BUT it also has a thicker (normal) antenna lead with a normal one pin plug on the end - however this lead is not plugged into anything and there is no receptacle in the rear of the radio for it.

Does anybody have any ideas as to how I might be able to join these antenna into the radio for better reception.

Thanks

Vicb

Just get a gme am/fm whip & put it on your bullbar or one of the Z mounts next to the bonnet. Much simpler & heaps better reception plus it won't snap or get damaged every time it sees a tree branch! Disable the electric antenna.

The setup is known as a "diversity antenna" amongst other less savoury terms.

You can get Nissan Antenna adapters at any Car Sound joint like Alberts etc, the better accessories stores and Ebay. The last one I bought was about $12
