My biggest concern is corrogations and ally??? I've heard to many stories, both good and bad about Ally racks. I dunno which way to go?? I have a steel rack and it's HEAVY!! My mates all have steel roofracks so I can't get any feedback on ally. My truck needs to lose some weight BADLY!!

Buy one and let me know!!;)

i Worked with ali ships for 7 years so im not worried about corrigations and cracking, if the welding is to standard it should be fine. I was just wanting to know if the arb racks are good quality. Some of the racks ive seen sit quite high off the roof, are the arb ones the same?

Cheers

even if someone knows very little about welding, you can tell with ali if the welds are of decent quality or if they have been sprayed on there 1 hour before nock off on a friday.

You cant beat the weight difference tho, think the ali one is 22kg from memory? and i think the steel one is close to 60kg? Im sure the steel ones are awesome but i want to keep my weight down for when my rear twin wheel carrier comes!

cheers

Frosty could lose some wieght & ive heard alot of stories also up here on the Cape..

I have 3 friends with ally racks but they do not know what brand/who made them etc they are not marked have no stickers ect & were purchased secondhand..

They have had zero problems so for some feedback there are 3 happy punters with alloy.... i would prefer aaloy also but whats the price difference between the two?

I have a mate that has one on his troopy. He has never had any trouble with it and they load it up. It must be about two years old.

PM Sudso (or check in vendor section). He has built his own alloy roof rack and it's pretty tough. Don't know if he would build anymore (worth asking), but I don't think it will be falling to pieces anytime soon.

Also check out 'Black Widow', they make a good alloy rack and use the rinorack system to clamp it to the roof. Around the $1400 mark and i just fitted it outside the store.
Beaware of the different sizes that they offer, mine is 1350 wide and 2200 long. Some are only 1200 wide.

yeh but your no worse off than me  i been eating too many pies..:D

I have a steel tracklander & its awesome but its heavy & overkill for my needs so am selling it..... As Don suggest worth checking out..

the only down side to steel is wieght & rust if you get some....I personally would "Never" buy an ARB rack as i have had 2 & both rusted badly in 3 years yes 3 years so i would give them a wide berth & go elsewhere..
