Hope you all have a great Australia Day and celebrate it as best you can with family and friends, this is our very own personalised day, not borrowed from some other country.

If your out driving, drive safely and if your out drinking let someone else do the driving, we want you back here in good shape on Tuesday ;).

Youngest daughters birthday tomorrow, will have a barbecue on Sunday though.
My Daughter is driving up to spend the weekend with us, we don't get to catch up that often, so a special weekend for me also.

I think just leave them as they are, both the day and the anthem. Sure the anthem has some odd lyrics: 'Young and free' and 'Girt by sea.' The melody could be better too. But they both exist so let it be.

If they were changed the whingers would only find something new to whine about and that might even be more irritating than Australia Day and the anthem. Let them waste their time and energy on the yearly moan as it is. We can just ignore them as we usually do.
Absobloodylutely, hence my Lincoln 'quote'. Doesn't matter how bad our anthem sounds, OMG have you heard some of the others around the world, it is about 'Australia and Australians' hence the shift from GSTQ, if people don't/can't identify with "Australia' overall after a couple of hundred years they have their own set of issues, get over it and move on to more realistic goals that make life better everyone.

I couldn't give a rats bum if Mundine won't stand for the anthem, he's a publicity seeking absolute moron who has the biggest bloody chip on his shoulder.

Drove over to Golden Beach for a look at the break through on upper Bribie, man what a crowd, rain absolutely pouring down and no one cared. Could just make out the break through but couldn't get a pic due to rain, we have had 30mm so far.
I must admit I do get a bit concerned about the Utes driving around with big, multiple, Australian flags, both Red Ensign and Blue Ensign.

Have put a poll up in the poll section on the Jan 26 date, will close in 7 days, interested in whether our regular/general membership wishes to keep that date or drop it (not why).

I dont think its an easy yes or no answer, but i do beleive it is possible to keep the date, but add to it to respect our history.

We dont have to agree with how our history was played out,but we can use it to learn from amd remember the past for what it was.

I believe it can be that simple, I'm only after a yes or no answer without going into the depths of a prolonged conversation. I believe 99% could answer yes or no, maybe isn't really a result. Just about every country has a story to tell on its past, it is something many come to live with but still remember.

No controversy for me, I'm not to blame for what happenned hundreds of years ago, I'm just ad Australian as anyone on this planet but my heritage has 7 bloods that I'm aware of, does that make me less Australian, not on anyone's life.

As a country and people we have gotten over many things in our 'recent' history, time for the 3% to move on and accept the ultimate result and stop continuously apportioning blame to 'us' who played no part in it.

Have said this before, if the poms hadn't landed, the french - spanish- russians and others would have and quite possibly have been worse based on history.

Secondly, does anyone really believe that changing the date would cause all the crap to go away? Again, not on anyone's life, the argument would simply change direction.

I'm not a flag waving 'nationalist' but I said to my wife recently that if this crap continues I'll buy a flag and build a flag pole and put the on our roof.

Try hard to have a great day and stay safe.

Yes, it is like saying PNG was one nation, nothing could be further from the truth. Highlands Lowlands big problems.
Au aboriginese had 250+ languages prior to the poms arriving, asians had been in and out of AU for hundreds if not thousands of years before that, so they probably added a few more.

Today there are around 150 aboriginal languages, there was no written language but you can get aboriginal language dictionaries 🤔.

It isn't that difficult to just accept what happened, learn from it and move on. Many societies and cultures have done that over the millennia.

Aside from possibly Iceland,I can't think of any country which has not been invaded/settled by people of another land,in some cases multiple times,Britain is a good

example, every [oops nearly typed man] person and their dogs sailed in to have a slice going back as far as recorded history and barring a couple, all countries have moved

forward usually adopting the best of both worlds.
Edzackery, the UK was one of the most raided countries on earth and some raiders were absobloodylutely vicious. The English language is a result of the main invaders over the millenia.

There's some ancient paintings in the north west (I think WA, but could be in the NT) that are unlike anything else. Local aboriginal groups say, "not ours". Testing has shown them to be the oldest in the area by a several thousand years.
Yes I had read of those years ago, they are known as Bradshaws, there is apparently no info from the local aboriginal communities on their origin, I saw a couple in upper WA back in the 90's.

There is a lot of conflicting info on the earlier civilisations. Some studies say 3, some say 2, some say none. Mungo man, from 42,000 years ago, has been accepted as an early aboriginal, but there are unconfirmed reports that Mungo man isn't of aboriginal descent at all.

I reckon there is more effort going into proving he is than not.

The remains were taken before full comprehensive studies could be made. They were ‘buried’ at a secret location by some elders. There were studies that were indications that the remains were not totally similar to the current inhabitants.
I know, have read just about everthing, if not all, there was on it. There were many unhappy people on both sides of the equation when the burial happened.
You would know better than most that societies without written language rely on stories being passed down from generation to generation. With the individual 'societies' here being relatively small, there were many versions of similar origins that would have become embellished by people and time.
Not sure how it worked here in Oz but in PNG there are somewhere around 800 native languages among 6,000,000 people. There is a pigin word used to describe a good mate, Wontok, I have many Wontoks up there. The origin of the word was for people marrying into other villages where they spoke different languages but over time became Wontoks (onetalk) as the languages merged.
