I like to check this at lunchtime at work occasionally. but with some of the avatars I've seen lately I'm not comfortable with doing so.
We can get sacked for displaying a "bikini or similar" image on our work computers. Shots of a suss looking armpit or a rather chubby back which is intended to be mistaken for NSFW images is not helpful in me keeping my job if some feminist militant bunny boiler comes past at the wrong moment.

Then there's threads with topics like "greatest boobies" or something.

Theres plenty of that in the net if you want to look for it and I have a fine and impressive collection of smut myself. But I dont want it on here.
That's the reason we have a ****ing swear filter too. :)

You can disable avatars in user CP and block users that you dont like.

So not really a problem

In General section I think we shouldnt have to worry too much about what is written just so someone can use a work computer or hide from their wife.

Everyone shouldnt have to change for one wife or one workplace.

Be your own Boss. Then you can do what you like. I'm farked if I'd be letting anyone else look over my shoulder and tell me what to do. Too much of that crap going on these days.

You only live once...do it on your own terms.

There has been a fair bit of discussion on this topic lately and I don't usually have anything to say on such matters however I see a double standard at times here and IMHO it is dragging the forum down.
If the forum is g rated and family friendly then it rightly so has filters in place for swearing etc.
I am no wowser and I enjoy looking at hot chicks, I swear amongst my mates, I even have a bit of a perv at the odd bit of smut.
But does this forum need to have any of it to be a great forum?
No, IMHO it doesn't.
I realize most of us are just normal blokes who couldn't care less if an avatar or a thread contains a chicks motor, in fact most of us blokes enjoy chicks motors but considering there are a few blokes who are like us that may be in a situation where it is not appropriate to have these images shown then surely this is a place that would benefit from sticking to the family friendly theme?
Maybe I am just getting old. Personally I don't mind what gets shown but being a member of several brilliant forums and quite a few pathetic ones I'd hate to see the potential of this forum get wasted due to poor moderation.
Anyway just my opinion! Carry on lol

I'm with you Mike H. I've disabled the avatars, still trying to work out how to block some of the posters on this site.
Another one is the thread topics - ie "favourite names for vaginas" what sort of forum is this becoming.
I joined patrol forum a few yrs ago because I was reading through the "general discussion" thread and read a response from BIG GQ (I think) stating possible outcomes if pictures of smut/porn were continued to be placed on the site, he said if ya want porn go else where and he could even show you where to get porn if you really wanted it. I remember thinking this was the site for me if that is the standard and I have hung around since.
This was a generally family friendly site but just getting a bit too close to that line in the sand for my liking.

disable avatars, or better still don't look at this at work. The General thread is all about general, random, irrellivant chit chat. If you want serious tech look in the appropriate topic area. Do not complain about the area of the forum for "letting off steam". I object to being told off for having fun because someone else does not like or can be sacked for my version of fun, if you are going to richard around with the forum at work and lurk in areas known for their "humor" then it's on your head and no-one else is to blame.

and i'm not talking about showing porn or being blatantly offensive the "greatest boobies" thread is about Boobies a relative of the Ganet... it's a tongue in cheek stir.

and truck, the BIG GQ line you recall is in the General Chit Chat thread and was in response to some escalating use of girly pics as monday motivation... because simple pic of attractive women turned into T&A of quite NSFW proportions.

are we refering to me by any chance???
Nah mate I'm not referring to you in my long winded post! I was my just making a general point which is only my opinion.
Don't get me wrong I love perving on chicks I'm just not convinced this forum needs to be going down that line to be a great forum. There are plenty of ways to see tits and arse on the net.

Mate I get what ya saying but what about the poor bugger at work who signs up and reads the rules at work and because of the rules on sign up he understandably decides the site is safe for work and starts browsing?
He doesn't know the general section may contain images or discussion not safe for work. Maybe when people sign up there should be a disclaimer stating that the site is not suitable for work or kids under 18?
Let's face it, the moderation these days is subjective to the moderators own personal beliefs. A far cry from the mature sensible approach of the forums beginnings.

Nah...its easy to tell the diff... his arse is the hairy one of the two.

Well the thread earlier this week hit 13 pages and I had 20 in the sweep but the Mods locked it so it was declared a no race.

Wonder how long this 'un will last?

sorry davess I disagree mate.
Went and found Big GQ response in the general chit chat thread (page 107, repsponse #2126)
I think our standards have dropped way below that response.

Well the moderating has not changed at all since i've been here and for what it's worth I almost agree, but the avatar thing was hilarious (and enjoyable) and besides there's little to be learned from the General Discussion area. Nothing and I mean nothing irrelevant or off topic goes in the tech specific threads and as such they are pretty family friendly.

Maybe the General Discussion area needs a disclaimer that it's at times NSFW or for little eyes but I guess that's where parent onus applies to "self" moderate. But that's only my opinion and like a backside everyone has one.
