I guess it's classed as porn to some anyways so better safe than sorry
Some people must take their diesel power too seriously and get easily excited.
Interesting to see the effort to put in that long taper transition from the flange up to the 4 or 5" exhaust. One would assume there is some benefit there compared to a short flare/transition straight off the back of the flange.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Boring world if everyone only liked one type of engine/fuel type. I enjoy seeing/working on all types.
So do I. I meant why the pic was deemed porn and not acceptable.

I am very curious about the super long taper before the full 5" exhaust size though?
So am I. Can't imagine he's just done it for looks. Maybe a short transition causes too much turbulance and slows the air speed to quickly causing a small bottlneck making the turbine have to push the air more rather than some sort of natural evac from the higher speed.

There is lots of gas laws to explain that sort of thing they are trying to achieve there. Its to do with keeping the gas velocity the same traveling out of the turbine by accounting for the gas cooling effect creating a negative pressure effect ever so slight to promote turbine flow. All beyond me really but understand the concept. When you are looking for the last Kw or Nm you will do anything.

I like the bit about the fueling too, a lot would overlook this aspect of a setup. Not just the duration of injection but the actual quantity of fuel needed to make the power.

The quote the rings home to me is from an earlier video, 'the boost guage is dead '.
It's not about how much boost you can make as quick as you can. Size the turbo correctly and you make the same drivabilty with less boost and less fuel.

I think that was actually in the very first one! I don't run a boost gauge anymore either, I'll stick it in for tuning or testing purposes but it no longer stays in the car and i'm really enjoying not having it in their either as I couldn't help but stare at it constantly while driving.

I still run a boost guage, but it doesn't bother me that I don't hit 30psi by 2000 rpm.

It is still a handy tool if only to look for anomalies in your normal driving patterns.
