First one let go half way into the Palmer River gold fields on the way back from the cape, the bearing let go. Heard it starting to rattle and tried to nanny it back to the tarmac but it spat the idler about 15km from the main road. Expensive excercise let me tell you. Replaced the entire unit as you can't buy the idler separate from the shockie. Couldn't get parts sent to Palmer Roadhouse for 3 days, so got a tilt tray to Cairns....ouch!!

So last weekend I was giving the old girl some fresh oil. I had noticed a knocking sound and found it was the fan belt "flapping". Turns out the little shockie thing on the tensioner has let go and blown its load of greasy chit all over itself.
I suspect when the alternator chit itself(been an expensive 2 months) the mechanic has wrenched the tensioner too hard whilst removing or installing the belt. Are these easy to damage? I told nissan it was a dodgy part and to thier credit they gave great service and I got a new one for free.
