Oh how the mighty have fallen!:D

This is the twat that lambasted and basically drove Benny Hill into oblivion, trying to become a comic star and then who later on seemed to follow in the exact same steps when most of his comedy failed. Now his latest show (which I've never watched) is apparently a disaster ie, not funny and looks like going into the trash can faster than a six week old meatloaf.

Benny Hill was funny in his day and is still funny now with the re-runs; simple innuendo and double entendre that was often crass, but innocently funny. I'm still amazed that Ben Elton was one of the writers for Black Adder, he must have been confused about his identity at the time.

But anyway, Ben Elton, Benny Hill has bested and outlasted you, and so may you star at the next Melbourne Comedy Festival and many thereafter. :loser:

Cheers

Personally I find the Blackadder series (admittedly a dual effort) and his books such as Stark gut bustingly funny whilst Benny only ever got me grinning.

IMHO Elton was the better of the two off screen as a writer director but Benny Hill definitely better on screen and the more versatile comedian.

Haven't bothered to watch Ben Eltons show for that reason.

P.S. the blonde on Benny's right in the photo has gotta be a trannie

Love what Ben Elton has done in the past, great funny stuff, but what I saw of his new show last night was as funny as a truck load of burning Koalas.

Ben Elton = Comedy legend/genius
Benny Hill = Best thing he ever did was speed up a film clip.

Benny Hill has a show of skits. It was successful because it was crass and cheap shot comedy when nobody else was doing it.
Ben Elton co wrote genuine comedy series like Blackadder (4 series), Young Ones, Filthy Rich and Catflap and a bundle of others. Not to mention coming up about 10 successful novels.
He is by far the best stand up comedian I have ever seen live (I have seen a lot).

The first show was pretty ordinary and the second show was MUCH better as it relied on Ben to carry it. I don't mind that at all. The more of him and the less of the others the better.

The blond is not a trannie but IS Barbara from Bankworld. The star of the best set of banking adds in many years.
Don't get me wrong I am not saying the show is great (yet) but comparing Ben Elton to Benny Hill??? GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK.
Too many fumes from that new exhaust I reckon Ray. :)

Not at all, but I think you're giving Ben Elton a little too much credit, and skirting over some of his darker side. What I don't like about Ben Elton is the way he put down Benny Hill for the very things he later did in his comedy, and he even did a Benny Elton (I think it was called) in an attempt to curry favour after he got a lot of flak for his views about Benny Hill. Ben Elton has proven to be a bit of a hypocrite in a number of ways. He might be funny (at times), but not really a nice person.

Benny Hill is the guy who showed you lots more of what's in the top photo, Ben Elton is the one who didn't. :D:D:D

Oh sorry Ray. My mistake. I never realised T and A was comedy. Don't get me wrong I will look at it all day long but I don't see it as comedy. And I can watch old mean leering at T and A all day and still not laugh. I prefer well written clever things that amuse. :)
I never knew he commented on Benny Hill but it was probably when I was 10 and thought Benny Hill was funny too. T and A is many things to pre pubescent boys isn't it. Once I got older I probably would have said the same thing about Benny Hill but we are all entitled to our opinion aren't we. Even Ben. :)
As for "trying to become a comic star and then who later on seemed to follow in the exact same steps (never saw him speeding up video whilst chasing scantily clad women) when most of his comedy failed."
I would be happy for you to compare your list of his "failed comedy" (short list me thinks)with his successes (long list me thinks).

T&A has always been a part of comedy, ads, everything in life. Surely you would have noticed this? Benny Hill used all of the typical human frailties for his comedy, it was more vaudeville style, than the serious (straight, PC, whatever) stuff Ben Elton did over his time, and a lot of people enjoyed it; it was innocent and fun.

Hill had struggled on stage and had uneven success in radio. But in television he found a form that played to his strengths, allowing him a format that included live comedy and filmed segments, with him at the focus of almost every segment. It was to prove one of the great success stories of television comedy, keeping Hill a star for nearly four decades, generating impressive revenues for Thames TV, and remaining a cult series in much of the world long after Hill's death.
The video sequence was nothing more than the ending of each show, if that's all that you've seen or can remember, I think that you need to revist one or two of the re-runs just to acquant yourself with the major aspects of the show. But as for Ben Elton:

Towards the start of the eighties the show featured a troupe of attractive young women, known collectively as 'Hills Angels'. They would appear either on their own in a dance sequence, or in character as foils against Hill. Sue Upton, one of the longest serving members of the Angels, said of Hill, "He was one of the nicest, kindest, most gentle of men to work with". But the sexual content of the routines contributed in the 1980s to feminist accusations of sexism.

Reflecting such changing currents of opinions, the 1980s alternative comedian Ben Elton denounced Hill as a "dirty old man, tearing the clothes off nubile girls".[1] But a writer in The Independent newspaper opined that Elton's assault was "like watching an elderly uncle being kicked to death by young thugs".[2] Elton later claimed his comment was taken out of context, and he appeared in an affectionate parody for Harry Enfield and Chums, The Benny Elton Show, where Elton ends up being chased by angry women, accompanied by the "Yakety Sax" theme, after trying to force them to be more feminist rather than letting them make their own decisions.
Read a few of these opinions:

BENNY HILL: A man out of time | Elsewhere by Graham Reid

Ben Elton launches sick foul-mouthed tirade against the royal family as he plugs new book on Australian TV | Mail Online

Ben Elton Live Fails on Every Level - TV Insider Blog | The Australian

Funny that Ben Elton always has the excuse that his comments are taken out of context. For a suposedly erudite Englishman, one would think that he could express himself without being taken out of context.

In closing:

His biography Benny [Benny Hill] offered close-up insights of this enigma whose work was admired by Charlie Chaplin and held in contempt by feminists, critics and television lobbyists.
Like Benny Hill or not (and he was liked by a vastly greater number of people than Ben Elton ever has or ever will), at least he was consistent and generally inoffensive, compared to the smut that Elton has had to succumb to in an attempt to hold up his comedy credentials.

Keep up the good work Ray!

Australia needs to stop accepting the comedians that the UK don't find funny anymore.

You had Lenny Henry down here last year FFS!!!!
