A very good mate of mine has a property 7ks out of Cobargo. He's a medical specialist based in Canberra who runs regular clinics at Bega, Moruya and Narooma as well as Tumut. The property is about 150 acres 40 of which is irrigated from 3 dams he has on the place. Two houses, a workshop and a big shed plus loads of equipment. We have spent a fair bit of time over the last 12 months upgrading the fire protection including two new diesel pumps to be able to spray the main house with water from the dams.
Yesterday (he wasn't there) the fire came through and at this stage he doesn't know if anything is still there. If possible we will go down on Saturday to check it out. Just about everybody has been evacuated from Cobargo so no information about the farms in the area is known. Two people who stayed to fight the fire on their property died. The smoke from these fires is terrible in Canberra. 15 times the hazardous level....I'm over it !

Another farmer dead at Coolagolite near Cobargo. The other side of the range to my mate's place. Doesn't auger well.

Couldn’t believe the rudeness of some of those residents on the news this morning, verbally abusing the PM as he toured the area. I don’t know if they’re still angry that he went on holidays, HOW long ago? Or whether they expect him to have been able to somehow prevent these fires? Whatever their reasoning, to take a cheap shot in front of the cameras is pretty pathetic, they need to take a good hard look at themselves.

Dirty hippies from the looks of it.. The sorts that are all against back burning. Maybe they should go chain themselves to some trees now. ;)

Last year we had our fire shed broken into and a couple of small fire pump stolen. They took the back corro sheets of the wall and same thing to other fire sheds in the area.

More cleaning up today, Saturday not looking good, wish my dams had water. Have a bore that I use to pump water up to a turkey nest dam has 20m head that runs my sprays at back of house (toe of the hill_timbered) so dry.

Seen fire run over the ground with no vegetation that you could see at all and fire balls go up over trucks and coming back to ground 150m further down wind.

It will not stop for some time, things to do. Coffee first

The Mayor later made an appology to the PM over that.

Must have been highly embarrassing for him. What it would be nice to see is one of those involved man up and make an apology in person. Won’t happen though.

I saw the interview and the apology on the news this morning I was going to link it to you but surprise surprise it doesn't seem to be getting reported

Oddly enough, there's mention of the apology on the ABC website... buried in the text about halfway through...

Perhaps the people there are getting a little bit angry cause no one is listening to them, then the pm comes to town and instead of listening he forces a woman to shake his hand and then turns away from her as she’s talking and walks off, seriously what kinda person forces someone to shake their hand in a situation like that? Then he tries to do the same with a firey sitting in a chair looking exhausted and shattered who it turns out has had nothing to eat all day and lost his home the day prior at least the PMs wife chatted to the guy, listened and gave him a hug which was reciprocated. The problem with scomo is he has no empathy or understanding of what these people are going through or how they’re feeling and is just walking amongst them spouting platitudes to them when what they want is someone to listen to them and take some action and admit that they’ve made mistakes in how it’s been handled and apologise for that but instead you get the abortion of an apology he gave for going to Hawaii which was essentially ‘I’m sorry that other people were upset by it' without actually understanding why they were upset and that he should of just apologised for his stuff up in going in the first place

Yes andrew1964, very disrespectful, blaming the PM for not giving enough to the RFS, when in fact it’s a state concern.

I would suggest those people would have acted exactly the same if he was down the on the election trail
