same as the title says Bugger the Floods
not only are the roads cut for up to a week or more but the loss of houses and possesions is just crap.

The amount of water around here is unbelievable. Me and the missus have been living out of a Caravan for the past week and maybe another few weeks after that as we cannot get home. We are just hoping no one has broken in as no one can check up on our house.

I have been doing my part to help out by donations just wondering if any one else has been helping out.

Cheers Fellas

Mate when a wave hits Indonesia the whole world stops and cries and hands over millions in donations. If it happens on home soil most people couldn't give a rats ass.

I for 1 will be donating to our aussies in trouble.

Keep on keeping on glenno. Chin up youll be right, its the aussie way

got this in my email today

This picture shows the wash out on the Banana – Theodore Road.
Imagine the possible consequences of attempting to cross this while hidden by flood water.
A great example of why NOT to drive over flooded roads or ignore road closed signs.

Yeh mate, out in Bilo and have given a wedge of stuff to the SES appeal.

Ironic that when we went to get the gear out of the garage to donate it we found that we'd had water through it and some of it was stuffed.

Cheers

Yeah we went from being stuck in monto to being stuck in Rockhampton. We haven't been at home since the 24th of December. I know there is a member that might be in the middle of the floods. I have seen his patrol in depot hill everytime I head to work and where it is normally parked it's well under water. I will upload some pics and show what it is like here.

and the stupidest thing they did was name the appeal, the Qld Premiers Flood appeal or some sh|t.

people who live in qld will know how much she is hated up here, they couldn't of called it anything worse if they tried. i bet the name of the appeal alone would be enough to stop people from donating.

sad but true

I'll not be sending in any money, but I will be helping out in kind.

Got my name on the list to go up later on and help out on clean-up;- rebuilding fences etc, same as I did after the bushfires.

Also helping to load trucks with stock feed, and might even co-drive a load or two up there.

... of course, if I ever get the Dizzy back for my truck I'll be taking a few loads up myself.

We will be donating as much as we can afford (Very small biz). But have also tried to help out where we can by creating a website / forum where people can share stories / pictures / offers of assistance and hopefully join people with the tradies they need.

If anyone has anything than can add to this fledgling site, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Surely if you called up the local SES and told them you've done 6 years before, they'll happily take you on to help out.

Here is a Facebook page with pics and comments on the Floods all around Cq here is a couple of pics to kind of get the extent of it.

These pics where at about 8.4m to 8.8m so not at the peak height we are experiencing now.

One is From the Top of Mount Archer and the other as you can see is the Main Roundabout from coming West or South of Rockhampton.

That's bloody good to hear eddy. How did you get into doing the clean up and stuff here?
One of those unofficial gigs.
...know a bloke who knows a bloke etc ... some involved with Lions and Rotary etc.

After the big burn-up, a couple blokes down the pub decided to grab a load of posts and go fix some fences and it ballooned from there.

Same sort of thing is beginning to take shape now, & one of the ring leaders is gunna go up in his Cessna sometime in next couple weeks.

There is no need to worry. Anna Bligh, Lucas and Schwarten are now in charge.
The whole thing will be brilliantly administered and carefully executed.
It will be an inspiration to the rest of Australia. Nothing can possibly go wrong or be ****ed up by this magnificent accumulation of great minds.

Stand back and be awe-stricken. I am absolutely certain we will be.

Now be fair! The 2004 tsunami killed 227898 people. 227,898 - say it, think about it, think about how large a number that is. That is just the dead people, it doesn't count the homeless, the parentless, the jobless, or any of the other results of such a disaster.

Comparison with the sad events happening in Qld is just silly.

I am glad that the boxing day tsunami attracted more aid than the qld floods. Any sane person would be.

Well, I finally managed to go to work today, for the first time since Xmas Eve, but not at my home station. I reported for duty at the local station, and now find myself heading out to Theodore tomorrow to help out with the clean up out there. It could then be a daily trip out there till I can get back to my real work location.

As for helping the SES out if you havent been active for a while, unfortunately it seems the OH&S demon strikes there. I had 18 years in the SES, including as a team leader during the 1991 Rockhampton flood, meritorious service awards for 10 and 15 years, and the National Service medal for services rendered. Even with that, because I have been out of the system for a few years, I could not help them out, even though they were short of people. How times have changed. In 1991, we had people walking in off the street to the Charles St HQ, being formed into teams, lead by an SES member, and sent out into the field. That wont happen now.

Good luck with the clean up - stay safe!
