My wheeling plans for the weekend just gone were spoiled when my handbrake locked up as i was humming along at about 80km making an unpleasant shuddering sensation and a terrible smell. After pulling it apart i discovered the friction material on H/brake shoes had become brittle and separated from their metal backing. No prob, easy fix via supersh*t auto.
What does concern me is that the truck mechanic at work tells me it is because of my lift putting tension on the cable so it is pulling on over bumps. I can not understand this as i have not lifted the body yet and the suspension lift i have done should not affect the h/brake drum as it is mounted to the back of the 'box. He wont elaborate just says the same thing over and over again.
Is he full of cr*p?
(IMO i reckon they are just old and thats why they gave it up)
