i did not see any threads on this everyone buys diesels.

im considering buying a 4.8 auto ti wagon, i currently have a 4.2td turbo manual gq wagon which i trust to take me anywhere. however i want the power and luxury to have a bit of fun in the dunes and please the missus. fuel economy isnt a problem cuz i dont drive it to work only thing i want is a bit of range for the outback.

im worried about the auto box, have many peolpe had dramas with these five speeds i wanna get a feel for how sensetive they are. i'll be running 35's and one day possibly turboing it. i do travel the northwest in remote locations and do not wanna get stuck in the middle of no where cuz the gearbox has stuffed up and the car cant be towed..

i have heard that you cant run too much power behind them cuz they arent as strong as the older 4sp autos.

thanks guys.

I've got a series 3 Ti with a 5 speed box and 216k. For the extra cost of the 4.2 diesel, you can put it on gas and get some accessories. Don't worry about traveling long distances, lpg is everywhere.

Theres nothing like driving around in luxury and with more power than you can poke a stick at.

Probs with the auto

Yes,we have a few issues right now.
WRT AUTO GEAR BOX it is shifting down when we hit 100 with a 750 kg trailer. Part of the issue is 2 burnt valves but tps is also showing a fault. 2002 model and 130000 km with no evidence that the auto fluid has ever ben changed. There are threads out there discusing this.Next week we are bppked in for an exchange Gas head and we will hen see how the other issues look.
Fantastic mechanic in Esperancce Matthew at Bridgestone.
