Back in the good old days in SAF (not sure if it is still the case), pretty much all the bakkies (utes) had a sliding rear window in the cab and then another one in the canopy (if you had a canopy fitted). Not a “sealed hatch” by any means, but perfectly fine for reaching into the canopy from the cab or for a doggie to sit in the back.
