I'm hoping someone on here can help me. As the title says, I can't open my rear drivers door (side door, not the barn door). The lock was always a bit fiddly, but now even when the locking button is lifted i can't open the door from inside or outisde. I'm thinking that the lock might not be actually unlocking when the button is lifted. The problem is that i can't get the skin off the door to have a look inside with the door shut.

Can anyone know how to open the lock on the door without using the button?

i had the same problem a while ago, same door everything, i found if i lifted the knob up and down several times quite quickly, it'll eventually just "unlock" kinda thing, then i took the door trim off, crc'd the **** out of the mechanisim, and free'd a few main moving parts up with a screw driver. try that see how you go

I had the same prob, real pain.I did the same with crc, helped a bit but the door would just open on the last bit of lifting the handle.
There is a little lever that is pushed by the shaft from the door handle,i found mine was bent a bit so bent it staight again & problem solved,i only nearly have to touch the door handle now & it opens.:pGive that a try, once you look inside the door & the mechanism you'll see what i mean.

I had a tricky one about the same... try pushing in on the door as you lift the handle then give the door a sharp shove inward (closed) once the handle is all the way up..
theres a little right angle bent flat piece of steel with a hole in it that a plastic bush pushes up through...
the idea of this mechanism is that the inside handle doesnt make the outside handle move and vice versa.
anyway it bends, and if youre lucky you might just make it move enough if you take the load off the catch by pushing on the door

Been there had that the door trim will come off with the door shut, just spray the lock mechanism with CRC,wD40 ECT then spray with aerosol grease.

When my rear drivers side door "locked", it was just luck that eventually it opened. Then immediately took the trim off and sprayed it, but that just loosened heaps of 17years of dirt, and the wd40 eventually made it worse. Mine "locked" in Oodnadatta of all places after travelling through the Simpson. Initially it was ok, but then had to give it all a good clean, then used graphite powder. Desert dust just loves wd40..... LOL.

As far as adjustment is concerned, there is a threaded plastic part (b..... hard to get at)that should have 1mm clearance from the latch (clearly shown in the geniune workshop manual).
The adjuster and latch are located behind the door lock at the door edge. However, there is heaps of movement if its clean, but problem is it sticks with dirt build up in the down position so lifting the door handle the plastic threaded adjuster still doesnt open/push the latch. The latch has to return up so that it can be released again. Spraying with wd40/crc will help, but only if the spring will pull the latch back up. You may have to manually do that a few times to get the wd40 to work its magic.

X2 with Shantillylias.
Both my back passenger doors locked up on desert tracks, I ended up pulling both mechanisms out to fully clean and make sure they were functioning properly.
Using graphite powder is a must. Better off dry than putting any oil on them.
X3 you can take the card off enough to maneuver the catch with a screwdriver, to open it.

Well I finally found the time to get a go at this. What i think happened was that someone had tried to open the door while it was locked and the mechanism jammed in this position. This meant that i couldnt unlock the door until the mechanism was released to it's closed position. (You cant unlock the door while someone is holding the handle.)

I sprayed a bunch of silicone spray on the lock which got it moving nicely, but should dry up meaning it wont attract any dust while still keeping everything nice & lubricated.

Thanks for the help guys.

I had the same problem on both front and rear doors... to begin with they were hard to open, like I had to lift the handle up all the way just to get them to open, till they just didn;t open at all any more... I just removed the whole lock assy and cleaned it all up with carby cleaner and played around with all the mechanisms then greased the bajeebuz out of them.... never had a problem since.

Well getting the door skin is is pretty easy..... only 3? screws or so.. they all in front of yours eyes basicly.

1 in the open of the door handle
1 on the bottom of the "grab handle"
Once this is open you will see 2 big-ish ones and your done..

cant see why shes not open tho im not mechanically minded in anyway at all lol. Anyway least i found away to get it open to put my seat back in !

Thread dig!

Anybody got any bright ideas on what to do when the door won't open and you CAN'T get at it from the inside? The front part of my drawer system is in the way, and there's no way to remove enough of it without being able to open the damn DS rear door!

It's not a life threatening issue, because I can (rather tediously) access what I need from the PS (and I'll be re-arranging stuff in the near future to temporarily get around that issue); but it's still a PITA.

Please helps me!

As has been said, keep lifting the lock button up and down until you hear a different click, this may take 100 times, but persevere and it will happen eventually. Then you can open the door and proceed as above.

Thanx for starting this thread. I've been having the same problem over a year and I've been blaming the woman who backed up her car onto the same door on mine, and the subsequent panel beating on it. Mine's still manageable buy quickly pulling and pushing the lock until it disengages, but pretty soon I'll have to open it up and fix it.
