Just got back from the Alps. Found when I was heading down the steep slopes in either 1st or 2nd LO gear there was an occasional clanking in the rear end - quite loud - that could be felt in the driving seat. This would happen once every 1/2 minute or few minutes. When it clanked there also appeared to be a split second of loss traction. Although this was for a very short space of time it was a bit scary when heading down a mountain.

The best way I can describe it sort of as if there were a tooth missing in a gear and every now and then it would miss the tooth and clank as it engages the next tooth - creating the noise, the vibration and the momentary loss of traction.

Has anybody got any ideas. Note: I came home just in case - did not want to end up in the bottom of a ravine somewhere!
