Cloud storage recommendations

As the title says, which cloud storage platform(s) do people recommend?

I’ve been a stingy bast*rd up to now, refusing to pay for online storage but I lost a lot of data a few years ago when I had a hard drive crash and yesterday, another one started making funny noises.

I have about 1.5TB of data that needs storing but this of course is always growing. Need something that will work for both Apple and Windows based systems. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m going to have to pay for something, but the cost needs to be justified.

I.5tb, man that will be costly, why not buy a separate SSD to store on, I store forum stuff on 'google my drive' but 15gig is max free, not sure what you can pay for. I also have a 1tb SSD I use to back up my laptop.

Yeah I was considering SSD but don’t have a lot of experience with them. Are they significantly more reliable than a conventional hard drive, especially when getting older?

I thought 1.5TB would’ve been peanuts compared to what some people store these days. :ROFLMAO:

If you are worried about deterioration, then I'd upload to another one in 5yrs time. They are cheap as these days and I'd be re formatting the older one and swap between them. I've just uploaded over 5000 pics and vids to one but can't remember if it is a 1 or 2Tb one. 🤔

I think an SSD would be fine and they aren't expensive.
We have the Apple One subscription with 2TB iCloud included. It also allows my 5 security cameras free storage of any events. Includes Apple Music and Apple TV+ streaming.
I use a Samsung T7 SSD with my MacBook because it also connects to my iPad.
I like the iCloud Drive system because I can have stuff like the full service manuals on my MacBook HD loaded to iCloud and I can open them on my iPad anywhere I have a connection. If no connection I have them on the T7 anyway.
I pay $42.95 a month for it.

Just to show how it can quickly add up in a family scenario, we’re at 1.7 TB already with 2 iPhones, 2 iPads and 2 MacBooks all backed up automatically and all my wife’s photos and videos (that she plans to sort through one day).
Lots of stuff intentionally loaded to iCloud Drive as well.

I pay an Office365 home edition for all my family use, annual cost about $130, it covers 5 user accounts ( 5 people to use the Office 365 on all of their devices), plus each user account has 1TB cloud storage for free. Yes, it is only $130 per year! Super value! In your case, if you buy office 365, and you will have total 5 TB cloud storage ( must have 5 email address), plus free use of all features of the office. It works for all the systems: the Apple , and PC or Android system. works on PC, and any mobile phone. update: it actually covers total 6TB! and office for up to 6 people

I have 4 2tb SSD's, all full, been using them for years with no degradation.

Last year while running the IT side of a fishing comp I used sync cloud storage, with which to upload and download spreadsheets that contained fish weights for fish type and senior or junior etc.

Lots of data corruption.

Formulars not working or disappearing, fonts turning white (and people thinking that no data was stored) etc etc.

Think I will stick to SSD's for my own stuff.

We also have the Microsoft 365 subscription for $120/year but only to have Excel and Word on the Macs and my iPad.
We don't use their cloud storage yet because we haven't needed to.

Edit: Just checked bank statement and Apple debit for MS 365 was $129.99 so apparently increased from original $120

I think I’ll look into this. We are 4 people in the family so this probably makes the most sense.

We all have iCloud accounts because we all have Apple devices but my wife and son’s free 5GB of iCloud storage is full of photos and videos. (We call my wife the Mammarazzi for a reason. :sneaky:)

I thought cloud storage was steam accumulated in the bathroom when SWMBO doesn't run the extractor fan

I'm an Apple device user, but I have a Google Workspace setup for the family. No need for MS Office subscription in addition and better integration and software than what Apple has to offer

Ironicaly I just checked spam and there is mail from "cloud" informing me my storage is at the limit and I should contact the link ---- nah, thanks anyway

How much storage for how much money?
$110p.a. for 2 of us, with 10TB of Cloud Storage and the full Google Workspace Suite, including domain hosting for custom Gmail email addresses (e.g. [email protected])

I have the same. Eights dollars a month for the work space and $14 a year for the domain.

Works well and wanted a domain for work emails.
