hey guy just wondering what everyone thinks on coilovers? any good pointless or what?
and can you install coilover on a truck in NSW and have it certified? aka road legal?

Can you even get coilovers for a patrol? I imagine a lot of custom fab work would be needed. My tuner has them in his GU but thats a comp rig with like 2' of travel. Full custom tray with raised mounts, x link in the front. It has been engineered and registered. So I guess it is possible to get on the road legally.

As far as I know fitting coil overs to a patrol only became legal very recently, other makes have had this option for while, but now all models can.
This law change will create a heap of work for custom 4x4 shops :)

i might try it sometime. . . . iv seen some great coilover setups. . . . not really worth it for body control over a well setup coil and shock. . . . unless youre doing 150kph often and really need the adjustment and twin linear rate coils.

i would do it anyway because its cool and i want to see what its like to live with for myself.

IMHO, it provides the ultimate in setup flexibility and on-vehicle packaging, but unless you can identify a clear shortcoming in your separate coil and shock arrangement compared to your needs, and can set up your coilovers properly, it's not worth the cost, fab and tuning.

Running a factory radius arm front?
Running factory steering balljoints?
Wagon and don't want to cut holes in your floor?

Would I switch to coilovers? Yes
Does what I do with my truck at the moment justify it? No.

There's plenty that can be done with near factory setups, modified shock mounts and different coils etc, but most people don't do much more than bolt in an off the shelf lift kit.
