So I never did a patrol build , but thought I would do one of my mk1 escort. Might take a couple of years but we will see .

So bit of back ground, I have always loved these cars, my old man had 1 when. He was about 18 , yellow mk1 with a build lotus twin cam , he sold that and many years later purchased a red lotus twin cam, this is when I feel in love with them, I was a young kid .

My 1st car was a 1300 mk1. I striped every nut and bolt from it , and had it hanging from the shed Roof , about this time my parents got divorced so my half done project got roughly put together and got moved to mums house were it rusted away.

Many years later a bought mint mk1 from deceased estate , with a 1600 in it, lowered it , bolted a webber on it , exhaust some wheels , big stereo and loved this little car to bits , until one day I got t- boned as I was going to have a look at another escort ( sadly was not for sale) so my escort was now gone.
Previous to this I found a mk1 in mint condition just around the corner from my home that dad bought about so we had 1 each at one stage , was great fun .
Any way dad moved. Over to w.a and took his escort with him where he started to do it up , it then ended up in a forum members paddock for a few years. When the old man gave it to me, with a heap of bit's . but being that it is not running and in a million bits I could not get it on a truck to get it over to vic.

So now my brother has decided to move back home so him and his mate towed a tandem trailer each to vic 1 with my escort , the other with his celica . His mate was meant to piggy back the tandems back to w.a but sooked out and I have just sent the second tandem back on a truck .

see safe as houses.

Anyway I bit if background to how I got here , sorry it's a little long winded .

This is how she sits currently

I have a fuel injected 2litre for it with a serria 5 speed for it every thing is there all machining done , I just have to assemble the motor. I really want to do some more work to the motor it's looks like a pretty standard rebuild 40 thou over head decked etc etc.

I have also got steel bubble arches from England , so these will be welded on

I also have a few other bit's and pieces , new clutch. New calipers new rotors , and some 13x 8 mini lites,
.

Should be a good project and I hope to get my young fellas into it , 1st things 1st put the motor together and get it mounted and running with the 5 speed.

I have always liked the Escorts as well. Many years ago I had a MkII with a 2lt Pinto, twin 40 DCOE's on Lynx manifold, head work, exhaust and plenty of other engine mods. The car had braced suspenion, braced chassis, quick rack steering, quick shift gearbox, roll cage.
Build for rally till one day on a stage did a 3 times over with a 2 1/2 pike with a difficulty factor of 8 at around 160km/h, thank god for roll cage. We walked away with my navi having a fractured forearm. The only thing that was salvaged was engine and gearbox.
One day I'll get another Escort but would like a Cosworth BDA engine or shoe horn a Windsor V8 289 in one. But failing that another 2lt Pinto.

Looking forward to see how you go with this. the little Mk1 2-door Eskies have a special place in my heart :)

Had a couple over the years. ohh the memories

The first was a Lotus Twin-Cam. An ex Bathurst Car that , I was told it, was driven by Bo Seaton but could never confirm).

The the second started off as a 2-dr Auto that I paid $50.00 for and ended up with all the goodies..4 link, shock towers. AP Lockheed pedal box, brake bias control,quick-rack etc. But with a McLaren prepared 1800 BDG under the bonnet mated to a ZF 5-Speed (basically made a works rally car replica).

Very nice.

A 4 link is really a must in a esky when rallying and have a few extra hp under the bonnet. How did your ZF go, I tryed but found the original 4sp Pinto gearbox to be slicker on gear change. I found my ZF used to sort jam up from 2nd to 3rd on fast change's.
Don't you love the quick racks 1 turn lock to lock

I never had any shift issue's with the ZF (was an S5 18/3) and it handled the HP of the BDG quite well. The car was on a spit getting seam welded when I found the ZF's (found 2 of them) so had to make a quick decision as to whether or not to go down that path so I could get the tunnel modded etc before paint and while it was at the shop.

Had some issues finding a 'reliable' rear diff. Had a Quaif LSD in its first diff..but then found a Group 4 spec Atlas rear end for sale in the UK so picked that shipped over...

I should dig out the pics..but its all pre-digital age so have to scan the...negatives lol

I was lucky at the time I was doing the escorts as I had a mate who worked for a large Australian airline ;) and could get me parts shipped back on the cheap..

I'm bidding on a turret and 4 link kit, as it's always been on the cards, not hard to build so I get out bid I might just build it my self.
Bilstein coilovers, rear discs, and I was looking at maybe shortening a diff out of a falcon for some extra strength. I always wanted do an escort to looks works style, roll cage, 4 cibie super Oscars, quarter bumpers, and I would like to end up going 16 or 17" superlites in 8" Just to give it that modern look and fill the bubble arches a little better.

I have to say the steel arches look a little scarier to mount vs the fiber glass jobs .

Another Mk1 Escort fan, remember when i first starting getting into racing watch Rolly Waters thrashing his escorts around Collie Motorplex, Geez back in 1999!

Well before the jap turbo imports took over.

There is one locally to me with the big flares, 15" superlites and a N/A Nissan SR20 in it.

I have also had a few escorts, an LJ Torana or two and three Mk1 Capris many years ago. I better watch this to get my fix as I am sure I would get shot if I bought another one and started all over again.
