Have a coolant leak on my 08 CRD cant realy identify where it is coming from. Looks to be the oil cartrage filter housing which was replaced a few days ago as the old one cracked with removal of the filter.

Does any one have a Diagram of the oil cartrage and how it goes together, and does it contain any water jackets or water circut.

the leak is only minor at the moment and not causing any dramas and also no traces of oil in coolant or coolant in the oil either. but dont want to fail any time soon.

Assuming it's the same as the DI the whole housing that the filter attaches to is actually the oil cooler, and thus filled with coolant. A bit hard to tell from your photos, but it looks as though the leak could be coming from the plug that holds the bypass valve in place.

I'd just clean it off and monitor it for a while, often these things will take up by themselves after a few hot/cold cycles.

Its a bit hard to take a decent pic as there is a battery tray in the way. But it dosent look too bad and hoping it wont get too much worse.

Mechanic had to use second hand parts as there was no genuine parts avalable in the country.

Going of the DI service manual, I can not see anything on the block above the Oil cooler housing (which you had recently replaced).

I hope its not coming from the head gasket! ?????

Again, I have the DI service manual & not the CRD.

The oil cooler element sits behind the alloy housing & is surrounded by coolant

I would wash it off & pressure test it (or at lest run it to pressurise the cooling system) & see if you can see where it is coming from

When the housing was replaced i assume they used a new gasket and orings behind it & where the cooler element bolts up to the housing

If they used an aftermarket gasket this will be ur problem i suggest use a genuine gasket

In the parts listing they list the main gasket as a rubber ring

Interesting to see if is rubber or just a dodgy description on the parts disc

Yer it makes more sense looking at the diagram and know that oil cooler is imersed in coolant. I would say it probly the gasket leaking.

Will have to notify the mechanic, but im away at the moment so its not realy practical to fix right now.

No genuine gasket was not used as none avalable in Australia.

Base part numper as per pic on thread is 21304 which should be a steel gasket

The gasket is the same for all ZD30 Patrols so it is hard to believe it is nil australia

These are the part numbers to suit yours

Oil cooler housing 21305 VS40A
Main gasket 21304 2W200
Oil cooler element gaskets 21334 05D04 x 2
3 orings at base of housing 21334 02N00 x 3

It would be interesting to phone a dealer with the numbers and check availability or pm Nizzbits and ask him to check for you

washed all the coolant away with degreezer and drove the car for 10 min or so only to find a freash green stain, there is defenetly a leak from the gasket.

Rang the mechanic and with no hesitation he booked it in for tuesday next week to get new genuine gaskets replaed at his cost.

Thanks guys for the Part numbers and diagrams. hopefully the patrol will see me another few days and 400km so I can make it to the mechanics.

So its leaking out of the top of the oil cooler housing.

Good to see the machanic is willing to replace the gasket and not deny the job.

Just to digging up an old post but for thoes interested the gasket was replaced ( no cost to me) 90,000kms on and no problems or leaks.
