The NSW Government will focus its efforts in
the following areas to grow our relationship
with China across trade, investment,
education and tourism:
1. Build on longstanding relationships and
grow our partnerships with China
2. Attract Chinese investment, particularly
in NSW infrastructure projects
3. Double the value of Chinese tourism to
NSW by 2020
4. Maximise benefits from an Australia-China
Free Trade Agreement
5. Promote Sydney as a leading financial
services centre and Renminbi trading hub
6. Strengthen the position of NSW
agriculture and resources in China
7. Maintain our leading market share in
education, and
8. Grow export of NSW innovation.
The preparation of clear, short and achievable
statements of government intent for each
of our priority markets is a priority action
under the NSW International Engagement
Strategy (2013).
This strategy for engaging with China is
a working document providing practical
direction for the NSW Government
across our trade, investment, resources,
education, tourism, agriculture, cultural and
infrastructure agencies.
It will be regularly updated and reviewed
in response to new opportunities and to
support the delivery of NSW 2021 targets.

In April 2014 the NSW Government
agreed to lease the Port of Newcastle
for 98 years to a consortium which
comprises Hastings Funds Management
and China Merchants Group.
The long-term lease will deliver gross
proceeds of $1.75 billion. This outstanding
result means an extra $1.5 billion will
be invested in NSW infrastructure, with
30% to be directed toward projects in
rural and regional NSW. Hastings Funds
Management and China Merchants Group
are equal partners in Port of Newcastle
Investments.
China Merchants Group has a 140year
history as an owner and operator
of ports and transport businesses. It
has been operating in the trading and
retail sector in Australia for more than
20 years. In 2010, it acquired leading
Australian-based container pallet
logistics provider, Loscam.

All pre covid activity..

Its amazing that it took a pandemic to wake Austraia up out of its stupidness and see things on how it really is..
Yes some of the dealing with chyna have huge benefits not only for NSW but our entire country.
Like our agriculture, tourism and our universities, all bring huge amount of dollars to our shores..

Since covid and recent trade dealings that Chyna has dished out to us this has sent warning bells ringing at a federal level..

Scmo has already shown us where Australia stands with our national interest and security by tearing up the Victorian BRI scheme, yah! And that I'd say won't be the last thing he will do to insure Australia's national security.. Many things will be looked into now..

As for Gladys, she's been doing an amazing job in the dealings with covid. And she'll be looking hard into NSW best interest post covid.. ( far cry from what Andrews was doing)
She'll be getting looked intensively at a federal level. Just the same as any other state leader will be ...

As for the port, it's half run by Chyna..
My understanding is the other half is Australian owned.( But I'm not 100% on that).
But since covid and Australia's recent bad relationship with chyna all foreignly leased ports are being looked into...

As you say the only thing that has changed is covid. Pre covid China was spying and influencing our politics, buying our properties, ports etc etc. Our government(s) did nought.

Pre covid China has implemented bans on our goods - nothing has changed there. The most recent being in 2017 when Australian beef from about six meat processors was banned for about five months.

Scotty from marketing has only jumped on the anti China sentiment since Trump has started thump his chest. Hmm must be an election coming up in the US.

You cannot have the cake and eat it as well.

As for Gladys.........something about a cruise ship springs to mind.

Yes that had the potential to be disastrous..
Its was to a certain degree as some families did indeed lose loved ones..
But that is under a full investigation on who was to blame for that..
But credit needs to handed out how Gladys and some of her health professionals dealt with getting that infection under control..

And I'll say it again," it's a far cry" from how Dan the man dealt with his out break..

The numbers speak for themselves font you think?..
565 death's...

"Yes that had the potential to be disastrous.." 22 deaths - I would say that is disastrous.

"The numbers speak for themselves font you think?..565 death's..." 75% per cent of those are attributed to (federally funded) aged care.

Pluckachook has done a great job as well...........but Dutton and Scomo are sinking the boot into her? Hmm why would that be?

Shame party politics has entered this. Starting from the top.

Pffft..... so what I read from this, is the NSW premier has her considerable sized nose out of joint and is to stubborn to pick up the phone and have a chat regarding the border closure. I don't understand why they haven't had a chat otherwise.
Or is the QLD premier dodging her calls

Its all a cat fight Guey.
Ms Palaszczuk has her nose out of joint when she was made to look a fool by keeping her borders shut when the first wave hit. Even tho there was no community infections...Then opened them when their was..

I recon halftime during the footy state of origin this year these two should slip on the ol boxing gloves and sort it out like real kitty cats..
But no hair pulling...
Well ok, alright, hair pulling allowed..

The most generous interpretation for ScoMo is that he has wanted to do something about China for a while, but hasn't had the backing (be it public, media or party room). Now he feels he does.

So you're saying it's only coincidental that Beijing’s threats to put punitive tariffs on Australian barley and halt our beef exports ?
And it's also coincidental that China has launched an anti-dumping investigation into Australian wine exports? And it's got nothing to do with Australia backing of a full enquiry/investigation into coronavirus?

Edit: oh and it must be just coincidental that Beijing is warning/ telling their own university students not to study in Australia..

All these things happened very quickly, it was one after the other.. so is that just normal of china?
