my patrol has been doing some strange things over the past few months and ive got a feeling its the accelerator sensor/potentiometer (or whatever its called).

first problem ... i could press the pedal about 10mm before it would start to rev but once reving everything was normal except for having to press down the first 10mm with nothing happening . 10 mins later it started working properly and was begining to rev as soon as pedal was pressed. it hasnt done that again once though

second problem ... when i hadnt driven the patrol for 10 days ,i got in and drove it and when cruising at very slight throttle it would act as if i was releasing the pedal and putting it back on , sortof like it was running out of fuel but its fine when i put my foot down a bit more. it stopped after 15mins

Now its doing it all the time . very slight throttle input and it surges. the boost also dropps off and then goes back to normal just like it would if i released the throttle and put it back on. But it only does this at the exact same throttle position, less or more throttle and its fine.

SO can i pull the pedal sensor apart and clean it or do a resistance check on it??
its really starting to shoit me!!

it does sound a lot like your pedal is having a moment proably the eastest way to check this is to borrow a mates pedal simply becuase if you test the pedal you will have to test it at the moment that it is playing up other wise it will test fine.
by the sounds of it it could even be a dirty earth so i would give your ecu earths a clean and from memory there is a earth behind the kick panel on the driver side.
As for testing it there is no resistance test only a voltage test to the pedal which will tell you that its got every thing it needs but not if your pedal is fualty
hope this helps

yeah not a bad idea to try swapping it , are they the same pedal units as the DI models ?

are they easily pulled apart to clean contacts?

Must have some brain connection to you hellfire!

I was just abotu to post my troubles in a new thread when I saw yours.

Here is my story.

Just before Christmas I started to get what I called a "surging" like it backed off and then kicked in again. Not a lot, but just enough to crap you off.

Had a service at a Nissan dealer (still under warranty) and no more surging.

It was noticeable in that you could see the rev gauge move up and down for a given pedal position and even hear it in the snorkel.

Anyway it started doing it again the other day and more noticeably.

Took it into Main North Nissan in Adelaide this morning who I do find helpful.
They got a foreman to come have a drive with me and plugged his fancy machine under the dashboard to monitor things as we drove.

He came back with the pedal potentiometer voltage fluctuating causing all the fluttering.
He reset that and one or two other things at the same time.

Bingo problem fixed. (Hopefully forever, but at least for now).
Was a very helpful fellow and being still under warranty - no charge.

Will monitor this to see how common it is.

Not being overly mechanically minded, first I thought uh-oh fuel system - $$$$.
Then wondered about air mix from the snorkel being sus.
However, it seemed to work out easily this time and no $$.

Phew!

07 CRD Manual....Accelerator pedal died an intermittent death at 120,000km/3.3 yrs old. Nissan didn't want to have a bar of it with warranty even though the hesitation had been reported while under warranty - just wasn't common enough to replicate.

Was a $500 odd unit.

One thing I am interested in Hellfire is how you isolated it to the accelerator?
Me, I had no idea where the issue lay.

But quite clearly the issue lay in the electrical system associated with the pedal.

Doesn't matter I guess but just how common is this fault?

Chambo Off To Work We Go

Generally you find that only a few things can give you the stumbel / hesatation that pedals are known for
1. maf sensor
2. pnp switch
3. pedal
this is asumming that all other bases have been checked eg air in fuel ,basics
as for common i wouldnt say common but more of a kowen problem
hope this helps

I just assumed it was the pedal because it would only do it at the exact pedal position, I ripped my pedal sensor apart to check it and noticed 1 of the 3 contacts was just just touching the contactor part so I fixed that which helped for 500 kms but it's started doing it again , my patrol is an 07 and has 118,000 on the clock so very similar failure to YOM's patrol

just booked it into nissan to get them to have a look and 10 mins later the accelerator sensor DIED!. i just got it home by pushing the pedal towards the door and downwards at the same time otherwise i had no response, i ripped the thing apart again and im pretty sure the problem is the pedal shaft is slightly worn and allows the connector pins to move away from the track they run on , so by me pushing the pedal towards the door it made them contact again.... friggen technology i want a cable!!

Sorry to hear that.

Mine has been fine since the Nissan Techo reset the Pedal.

However, you go from one thing to the next.
Yesterday and today can't get the gear selector out of Park without pushing the shift lock release.
Had been towing a large trailer yesterday.
Read up on this forum which suggested to check the brake lights and don't you know it, they were not working as the book indicates too.
Gotta change the fuse now which should solve that one.

Problem back again.
Back to Nissan again I guess.
They will need to look at further diagnostics than just reset the system.

Strange this is that it doesn't do it all the time.
Yesterday was bad and today ok.

Let you know what happens in due course.

CRD power loss

Hi guys, I've been having some similar problems with my 2008 crd M wagon. It's been happening for quite some time now and i could never quite figure out what it was. Today i pulled up 2 error codes "P2135 & P0122". Apparently they are something to do with the accelerator circuit? It was weird i had taken off and the car was driving well 1st and 2nd gear then went into 3rd gear and had a massive power loss weird noise and just pretty much died out then brought up those codes. Before that i was having problems with boost slow to come in and then spiking up to 18 then dropping to 12 and hitting 15 and just bouncing around alot. The car is blowing a bit of white smoke and has a small amount of oil circulating the intercooler. The power loss is weird and happens most of the time but doesnt throw up a code its the first time. I'm going to have a look at my EGR system and clean out my accelerator pedal also going to pull apart inlet manifold to clean out. I will be fitting my pyro gauge soon to further diagnose whats going on. If anyone else has experienced this same issue please pm me. ITS DRIVING ME INSANE!!! cheers Alex
