hey guys and girls,

i tried to do a search on this but couldnt come up with anything! ive just taken out my stock double din cd player and replaced it with a uhf and cd player. i then went to autobahn to get the connection for the stock wiring to the go to the cd player! the problem is there is one wire which is ment for the dash illumination an orange one! i cant work out where to connect it to. i tried to run it off the main feed and they worked but the noise that the lights make when they are left on kept going. i then tried the accessories cable and you get that noise when in accessorie mode?

im a little bit puzzled and wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how you fixed it!

thanks heaps Andrew

my money is on the dimmer wire, its ment to dimm the factory stereo when the headlights r on(ie. Night) you have probably mixed this wire up with an earth for the new stereo or a speaker as it will read 0 with a multimetre when the headlights r off

so im guessing that your dash lights are working ? but you just want the dimmer function to work on the new head unit ? , but where ever you connect the orange wire the headlight buzzer makes its noise? correct ?

there should be a wire in the factory loom that reads as an earth with the headlights switched off , when you turn on the headlights the same wire will read 12 volts , this is the wire the orange wire should be connectd to , no other wire should be connected to it unless it is for illumination

it is also commonly mistaken as an earth wire , which will blow your dash light and tail light fuse if connected to your head unit as a earth

Sounds like you have done something similar to what IAFNAN mentioned if you have blown the dash light fuse... happens a lot because you have essentially shorted out the dash lights

Also some aftermarket head units cause a head scratch because of the method Nissan use to earth the Audio Equipment thru the vehicle plugs.

Use a multi-meter to sort out the power and you may have to run an external earth wire

How did you go? did you fix it. I will also put my money on the earth for the wireless. run an external earth and it will all be sweet. Had the same thing happen to mine when fitting my new wireless. had me scratching for ages. You'll find it's blown the taillight fuse.
