Rebuilt IP,rebuilt oil cooler
Heaps and heaps of fiddly bloody stuff
1 week away from hitting the road
Took for a quick spin, and the friggin head gasket lets go
Water in the oil MMMM lovely

Now decision time
Do i do the head gasket replacement
OR
Rip the bugger out and drop in the tuff little SD33 Turbo sitting here ???

What do you guys reckon

If anyones done the head gasket replacement ,what was the total costs ???

Cost me $1400 for a brand new head as I couldn't find one without a crack in it.
about $300 genuine gasket engine overhaul kit.
My own time and labor.

I reckon just drop in the turbo motor.

Azotek,
HHMMM,good point
Motor starts fine ,runs fine, revs fine not a miss anywhere
But pull the dipstick out and water molecules the full length of dipstick
Ill fiddle with it for a while, failing that im swaying motor and box swap
Oh well ill have sometime to think, gotta build the man shed first

Silly question.. Did you replace the welch plug behind the oil cooler when you took it out, or give it a clean in there??? A mate of mines SD was putting water in oil, hell he could stick garden hose in the rad it would never fill, water came out dipsitck. Took me ages to find the prob. The welch plug behind the cooler in the block goes into the sump not into the water jacket like i 1st thought... To blow a head gasket on 1st test run seems a little odd. I mean there would have to be loose head bolts or a major prob to cause that.

Just a thought, might save you some time

Good to see those springs came in handy, Luke

Shed yeah its about time i get on with it
(clean up the joint a bit to)
The only friggin grassed pad here is where the sheds goin
Stage 1
8m x 12m
Its all sitting here now waiting to go up
Then stage 2 (6m x 12m left side)
Then stage 3 (6m x 12m right side)
Hence why its called the man shed
(be able to fit some sh*t in there)

i would say it is a hole that has somthing to do with the casting when the engines were made.. All i know is it took farking ages for me to work out it went into the sump..

Also there are welch plugs under the rocker cover in the top of the head too i think.
