4.1s in my car with 35s has my speedo out, reads 90 when I'm doing 100 and only revs at 2100 at 100 which seems low to me. Used to be 2300 with 32s.
So my odometer is 10 percent out as well.

if the car has 4.1s leave them but if it has 3.9s go to 4.3. Do not put in 4.6s

4.3's here and my speedo is spot on, at 100-120kph I could do with a 6th cog but that's probably the turbo making life easier.

When I have the 37's on the speedo is out obviously but can still take off in 2nd and it still performs like the 35's are on. 4.3's are perfect and so glad I didn't go 4.6's.

Does having an auto td42 effect these results? Would 4.3's still be best option for 35's on a TD42 turbo auto?

I believe you are better off with 4.6 diff ratios for 35's. It is closer to standard ratio than 4.3 diffs. If you are running 35's it's a fair chance you actually use the thing offroad and 4.6's are much better offroad.

IMO standard ratios are to short. Ie 4.1 with 3.1's
I have 33's with 3.9 and for work purposes only I'm getting 4.1's put in soon.
I have ample power and super low spool up but it's the initial take of I feel I would benefit from a lower cog.

Interesting! Any chance you could expand on your thoughts regarding this. I have 4.1s from factory currently running 33's with the thoughts of upgrading to 35's on the next set.

I've always thought I could do with a bit more get up and go, leading me to think maybe 4.3's might be the go, which in turn would in turn not put so much onus on engine.

Id be happy to others thoughts and reasoning.

Thanks in advance.

Towing a trailer all day sucks with 33s and 3.9s 4.2tdi. Would easy say 4.3s for 35s would be the go. Im even considering changing mine to 4.3s and run 33s just for take off grunt. Not sure how the top end revs would go though.

Ive got 4.1s on 35s and will upgrade to 4.3s one day. Mine is similiar to Chopped - only spinning at 2100 @ 100km/h which is 90 on my speedo. 2100 is a bit too low for the ht18.... Still pulls okay even when towing but there is a fairly large gap between the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears.
