Well, managed to come across the answer to my question whilst I was trying to find out how to open the bloody thing :)

As per Binder Planet Forums - View Single Post - Air tank the line "Diesel Kiki 15BH, swash plate/reciprocating compressor, a unit that IS NOT suitable for conversion to an air compressor." is worth noting. I'm going to put money on the guy knowing his stuff, as per Binder Planet Forums - View Single Post - Dual york compressors? he was a field service engineer for Diesel Kiki/ZEXEL from 1990 'til 2000.

Looks like I can try to get the compressor open, otherwise I'm going to start looking for a Sanden.
Hope this helps someone else, especially since this thread is already pretty high in the Google results :)

Hi There

When I bought the Mav', it was air conditioned and had a Sanden SD 508 compressor. These compressors ARE suitable for this kind of project (Endless Air's are converted Sandens I believe) and they have the added bonus of easy fitment to Patrols (at least TD42's!!). I blew up one as I hadn't resolved oiling it effectively, but got another compressor (SD 508) for $50 and fitted it in 30mins.

There's a larger capacity unit (SD 510), but I've never played with one.

Hope this helps!
