Around this time of year I tend to think about selling my Shorty. Don't really know why. Maybe because it's the silly season?
Last year I was reasonably serious about it. Even enquired about what it might be worth.
Anyhow, a year later and 260k's on the clock, it's still running sweetly and never misses a beat. If you don't count a new battery (the last one was 7 years old) it hasn't cost me a cent. In fact, in the last 12 years the only big expenses were replacing the suspension bearings and bushes and re-doing the engine electrics. I only did these because I thought that at 200k's something must have needed doing-it was probably premature but I'd never owned a car that didn't need something by then.
I can't imagine a more bulletproof vehicle than the GQ. All I can imagine is that the radiator and exhaust systems might go ( they can't last much longer than 22years - can they?)
I have a mate who ran his 4.2 petrol to 460k's then sold it because he thought it was past it. He bought a new Discovery and it gave him endless trouble. He regretted selling the Patrol.
Just a reminder in case the silly season affects you too.
