Around this time of year I tend to think about selling my Shorty. Don't really know why. Maybe because it's the silly season?

Last year I was reasonably serious about it. Even enquired about what it might be worth.

Anyhow, a year later and 260k's on the clock, it's still running sweetly and never misses a beat. If you don't count a new battery (the last one was 7 years old) it hasn't cost me a cent. In fact, in the last 12 years the only big expenses were replacing the suspension bearings and bushes and re-doing the engine electrics. I only did these because I thought that at 200k's something must have needed doing-it was probably premature but I'd never owned a car that didn't need something by then.

I can't imagine a more bulletproof vehicle than the GQ. All I can imagine is that the radiator and exhaust systems might go ( they can't last much longer than 22years - can they?)

I have a mate who ran his 4.2 petrol to 460k's then sold it because he thought it was past it. He bought a new Discovery and it gave him endless trouble. He regretted selling the Patrol.

Just a reminder in case the silly season affects you too.

Hey Punderhead. You are in front of the game...you are in credit. Spare a thought for the rest of the poor *****s who have a minus balance on their credit cards. Yep, poor but honest is the way to go, debt is a strangler. I have some cool stuff I could sell you for about $132.50.

Yeah I also see no reason to sell mine any time soon. It's just to good. And I've never had any real dramas apart from things I've broke haha. They are probably the last great 4wd.
If it aint broke, dont fix it...........................or sell it. Just mod it.

I plan on never letting my MQ go, and that's if I ever manage to get my hands on a GQ shorty. It might seem a tad obsessive, but why collect things that look pretty and get used rarely, when you can have things which look tough, go hard, and will outlast you :)

22 years old and no major problems (knock on wood). Definitely wouldnt sells this one. Had to sell the MK to add to what I had already, to buy the gq, otherwise I would have kept both, although the mk wanted some serious bodywork. This is one serious piece of machine. Not fast, but built like a tank underneath. Runs on seriously bad roads here without any problems. Going to revamp the suspension next year though and plan to do work on the cooling system, although no serious problems with it (hoses, fan, water pump, overflow bottle shot). Would love a 5 speed box too.

I just sold mine today. Moving back to Oz and unfortunately the modifications whilst legal over here in NZ are not in Oz. It would cost to much to get to Oz specs so someone here in NZ just got a bargin today as well as a very reliable safe and strong go anywhere truck.

Some of us never learn, sold my 1990 GQ a few months ago and the board of directors for 38 years said you wil be sorry, as usual did not listen to her, got a GUII 3ltr ZD30 in imaculate condition as new and was excited for a month, now 3 months later GIVE ME BACK MY 4.2. Not a patch on the old girl and never will be so yes you guessed it, looking at 4.2 GQ for sale

the only way their takin my GQ duel cab from me is to prise it from my cold dead hands!!!!!!!!!!! and then they'll have to evict me from the pilots seat !

maybe just maybe there is a very very small chance that my son may get it before I'm dead (and that is just a maybe) :)
