Hi All, got a 91 Maverick with what I believe is an AXT turbo kit on it. I don't like the current exhaust setup as it's rusted as buggery and leaking in places. From what I can a section of 2.5" pipe was pushed through a flange and then flared (which I've also seen in other photos of axt turbos on cruisers) but the rear housing also has this 5 bolt to 3 bolt adapter. Has anybody tried unbolting the adapter and using a 5 bolt dump pipe? Or is there a better way?

You could get a new flange and have a dump pipe made. An exhaust shop will charge you around $300 - $400 to make one up. You could make the dump pipe about a foot long but you should still run a flange joint in case you need to remove the turbo or exhaust at a later date.

Not the same engine as yours though. I had an exhaust shop make a dump pipe for me once. They royally f.... it up by cutting off my existing exhaust pipe at the rear of the gearbox and making the dump pipe in one piece. Later on, I found I couldn't remove the pipe as they made it too long off the turbo. Had to cut the pipe so I could tilt it down to clear the turbo studs. On my latest build I changed turbos and built my own Stainless dump pipe into a 3" flange.

Thanks for that @RoBoCoP. I did stumble across your post in my search for others and it was insightful. Now that I've thought about it some more I suppose what I'm really after is if someone recognises the bolt pattern on the 5 bolt adapter. To me it kind of looks like a T25/T28 but I'll need to make more measurements. Im hoping I can unbolt the adapter and have a flange go straight on.

My turbo is a GT2056s (factory turbo for an Iveco Daily) with a T25 flange to bolt to the manifold but the dump pipe flange is an odd 4 bolt pattern. I had to buy a dump pipe flange and gasket kit to suit from some place in Latvia or Lithuania.

The T25/T28 has nothing to do with the dump pipe flange. The T25/T28 refers to the exhaust manifold flange. You turbo is probably more common in Australia. If you have the turbo details go to a Turbo place and they should be able to supply a dump pipe flange to fit your turbo. If you're in Brisbane try Turbo Tech at Archerfield. If you're in Sydney try GCG turbos in Condell Park.

Just remember to give plenty of clearance around the clutch slave cylinder. A patrol I bought yrs ago had a dts turbo, 3" dump pipe and only hat about 15mm clearance so it was potentially cooking the hydraulic fluid so I used exhaust wrap as a to help.
