Hi all, gotta little problem. I put my rear passenger window down about a quarter today and now it wont go up or down. The motor is still working though. I did a search on here and by all acounts it sounds like the regulator is shot. Now what I need to know is this, is the regulator the bit that the motor is attached to with the visible spline in the middle and if so should this spline still be turning like mine does even if the regulator is stuffed or have i got another problem somewhere else? Cheers.

nah it'll be the regulator, when mine went i just replaced it with one from the wreckers, ive been told you can drill out the rivit looking things and weld the gear back onto the stud and shes all good again but i never tried. $50 from the wreckers and its no problem.

To get it out just undo all the bolts on the regulator. do not bother taking the glass out of the door just undo the screws and leave it at the bottom of the inside of the door once the regulator is all undone you should be able to colapse it and get it out. dont quote me but im nearly 100% sure that the rear regulators are different from the front ones so make sure you get the right one.

Electric and manual regulators are the same its just that nylon bush that slots onto the motor thats makes the difference. gewd luck mate, its an easy job and shouldnt take you too long once you sus it out

Cheers for the advice. I had the interier panel off and i couldnt see a collpsable regulater in there but I could feel up near the motor what appears to be cresent or quarter circle shaped cog that is driven off the motor to raise and lower the window. Now I am completley stumped.:headwall:

Yeh buddy that’s the one, as I said the rear are different to the front and i've never taken the rear out, but it shouldn’t be very different, from what I can tell the front have 2 arms and the rear have 1. so just pull the motor off and under it there will be a few bolts, just undo them, push the regulator so it comes out of the skin and it will fall, just get a grip of it so u don’t smash your glass and then you can undo the nylon bushes that hold the glass into place. Its hard to explain but once you start taking it apart you'll see what I mean.

Does it make a noise like gears chewing when you try to operate it by the switch?

Nah, no gear crunching noises, just the usual motor sound. Thanks for the advice, Ill takle it on monday when the wreckers are open. Until then Ill just cover the open gap with plastic and tape if it looks like rain is on the way. Bit of a bummer though as ive got a wedding to attend tomorow and spent the morning scrubbing the old girl up and now a peice of plastic over the window is going to make it look rather drab.

hey two tone, the after market ones are crap. they are $30 and will only last you 12 months if your lucky (well that is the experience i had anyway).
buy genuine for $100 if you are planning on keeping the car and it will last for another 20 years like the one your taking out.
