So i just bought this 2000 4.2 turbo diesel ute.. Injectors and glow plugs had been replaced, however car still struggled to start, probably took about 3 to 5 turns before it kicked over, and then just huge amount of white smoke and engine would miss pretty bad for a good 2 minutes or so..

I have checked the gause screen, checked all lines to injector pump for air leaks, still missing and such.. Cracked the injectors starting from front of block, just to make sure all had fuel getting to them, and when i cracked the 3rd one, engine nearly stalled up and then a knocking noise started..

Do injector pumps do this when stuffed, or do i have bigger problems actually inside the block?

Any ideas on whats going wrong or what i need to do...

Cheers,
Scott.

Ahh not sounding real good is it... I was half thinking last night about ripping the injectors out and knockin a new set in and same with the glow plugs just so i know they are new and take it in for a tune...cause i have a feeling ol mate has done it all himself and had no idea...

Uhm, the idle on it was about 400rpm when i went to melbourne to pick it up.. So nearly always stalled when come to a stop but has just had a new clutch in it but after driving it back the 2,000 something k's its fine there now and i have incresed the revs to about 700rpm.

No black smoke once its going fine, it goes hard, looses power every now and then especially on hills, but goes hard... I think the white smoke is nearly constant, just not front yard covering like when ya start it ahaha.

However my other bigger ute is now starting to have some starting issues, its just clicked over 210,000ks and am thinking about taking it in to get injectors serviced as its taking a long time to start (just replace glow plugs yesterday) and misses pretty bad once started...

Also probably for the last year or so if nail it hard in 2nd gear it will just die and then after abit comes good, like its not getting enough fuel or else sucking air...i am going to buy new gause filter for it and gaskets and see if that does anything, but its doing my head in....
