Hi, just starting to look at what to do with the next project and as a kid is on the way I want this patrol to be legit and all engineered. I am wondering if anyone has put a big lift in there patrol 4" plus and had it engineered, if so what else was involved and if you could, how much was it, PM me if you want.

Thanks,

Ben

Hey mate.. give the guys at Macquarie 4x4 Centre | Home a call. They can do engineers certs. From memory when i rang him he told me its about $900 for one to be done. Anything ove 2" lift has to be engineered...

Hi Ben,

In South Australia engineering involves the signing Engineer collecting data for all the suspension components (rates, wire thickness, number of coils, etc), possibly checking axle ratings/etc, and a Brake Effectivity and Lane Change test, typically performed on an airstrip. A lot of the cost comes from hiring the airstrip, but if the Engineer is switched on, they'll get a group together to share the cost. Also, an engineer can generally only pass the vehicle with 33's down here...

John Wilson's pretty good- charged me $990 for 4 inch lift ( with king 2.5 smoothies poking through the tray) relocated shock mounts, turbo, exhaust, no sway bars, front mount and 35's etc.
Was very specific about brake upgrades, noise level, guages on dash, mud flap length etc etc. - make sure everything is in order before he sees it.

Hey guys, has anyone got an engineers certificate in Vic - Melb specifically? Where/how much?
Are there max lift heights / max size tyres etc in Vic?

Must say after reading the forum for 3 days straight and the many debates/discussions re legal lift heights, I'm suprised that it's only ~$1K to get certified?! Sounds like great value for a $40K+ trol that I'll own for the next 10/15/20 years. Thoughts?

Engineering in Vic is tighter than a .... Last I was told is they wont engineer any suspension items that are adjustable, 4" was the limit (from memory), will not do tyres so cannot have 35s on at the time and cost was about $1200-$1600, that was a while ago and not from the direct source (a friend told me). Before you go to an engineer, get a copy of the VSI rules and tick everybox or don't bother.

You dont even get to an engineer unless the guys at Regency ok the mods you want to do first. The engineer just checks that the mods were all done to spec and organises the on road tests if any.

The police and the powers they have
Dont need a reason to send you for a machinery
Even IF in doubt of the mods
Off ya go

mat808 what was the end result? Surely he just presented the cert of NSW version of Vic Roads and all OK? I wouldn't be concerned about boys in blue as long as it roadworthy with Vicroads and insurance covers.......

PS Thanks heyhey, thats awesome!

If you have an enegineers cert and its all passed,
police cant do chit they are little more than mall cops,
they have no training in transport / mods,
they can only defect on tyres and windows, rust ,no mechanical items.
(and before I get roasted, I have argued this in court and won, they are not trained and certified as mechanics so there for cannot produce expert testimony ,as the judge put it. hahaha)
its the DPT transport you gotta watch they have the power to make you go a row.

But in saying , it comes down to common sense .
