its worth a look....
No, its not... Why do you think $60,000 ex mine trucks go for $10,000? Cause they are good value?

The ground is extremely corrosive. I helped a mate do a dual cab conversion on a 100 series, the chassis was ****ed from the inside out... It was solid with 'mine dust' of some form.. once I started digging it out of the rails, mate said to leave it alone... it wasnt well.

The car was only a few years old..

Just wait and be paitent, mate of mine took 9 mths to find a GU he liked, and could afford.

ok ok lol now i know, thats why i asked because i had no idea....i'll give them all a wide berth....thanks everyone....just like the saying goes, if its to good to be true, run a mile...
thanks again.

I agree with everyone else here I work in the mines and we absolutely flog the crap out of these cars. We mainly have dual cab hilux utes and they only last about 10,000 - 20,000 before needing major repairs like injector pumps, clutches, suspension, and body repairs from people driving into places they shouldn't (usually trying to find somewhere quiet to sleep on night shift). Trust me don't buy one.

mate, i would spend a bit more and buy one you can be more cetain is has not been flogged to the ****house!!

extra couple of grand now may save you ALOT more in the future.

3 hours idling outside is not that long. we work 12 hour shifts in the mine l work in and during a hot summers day or a cool winters night the cruisers wont be shut down for the whole shift.
They delvelop a bit of a miss aonce they have been idling for a couple of hours but nothing a little bit of a rev wont fix.
Biggest problem l find on our site is the amount of people who dont know how to use a 4wd. Its not uncomman for these vehicle to be driven in high 4 on the road to and from jobs because the driver has no idea what he is doing. (yes he will report that the steering is getting hard to turn)

If you can find out what mine they come from it might be worth a look.

Not all mine vehicles get used in corrosive chemicals. Most vehicles used in the WA iron ore mines (pilbara region)are not exposed to them. Most sites in WA wont allow a vehicle to be left running and unnattended so they usually donte get idled for too long.

Worse thing from ex Pilbara vehicle is the red dust, it gets all through the vehicle.

I happen to have purchased a GU DX wagon 4.2TD ex mine vehicle done 80,000. Yes I agree that rust can be an issue, but on the upside I purchased it at the right price with a full history including clutch pp tb change brakes and all the regular servicing. I haven't had any trouble mechanically. The a/c condensor was full of dust and had to be replaced but overall she has been an unbelievably reliable truck. Sure you would need to be specific and choose your truck. I have a log book with it and it just drives like a dream. Happy to answer any "Q"'s about it. I bought it in 2005, as a 202 model and paid 16K It would still be worth that all day now and I have 130,000 on it now. You get what you pay for but at worst I have seen a lot newer with more KLM on them and in worse condition.

Just my thoughts rather than the friend of a mates dog, this is from someone who owns one.

Thanks

ex minera

I used to work at Olympic Dam Roxby Downs and as most others have said stay away. Yes we used to wash and service when the book said but we would wash em with water sourced from the mine bores. Some of these contained water 7 times saltier than the sea. I wouldnt touch it unless I knew that it was an ex bosses car or something but even those have been driven through god knows what. We used to just hit em hard with a loader and pat em down nice and tight. They used to hold too much radiation for re-sale.

g'day ,
i work in an underground mine and let me tell you if you buy one your an idiot ,
thay get flogged to the hilt ,
they get locked in low range and thrashed , red lining most of the time .
the acid eats the alloy quick as , we get about 5-8000 underground ks to a gearbox before the alloy housing has been coroded through ,
the dirt gets in the chassis rails and it corrodes from the inside out , they get hit against the wall 9and they have no give at all ), and bend the chassis and you wont notice till your trying to get a wheel alignment,

mind you we are using landcruisers , aparently the patrol dont last too long in mining , alot of them where snaping the chassis just behind the cabs

we do use those rust prevention systems , great when there new , but crap in a couple of months when the vehicles been nocked around and the tab falls off or the wire corodes

anyway thats my 2 cents,

good luck

cheers , chicken
