Been thinking of get the exhaust system done on my patrol so far the best price and best recommendation has been Hi Tech muffles in Darlinghurst Sydney. They quoted me 1250 for a 3 inch stainless turbo back system.
Is this a good price? Can anyone recommend cheaper? Can anyone recommend someone? Is 3 inch a good size?

3" is good. Needs to include a 3" dump pipe to work properly. Redback system would probably be cheaper. Get online ,have a look about.

I had mine made in 3 inch mandrel bent for under $500.
from dump pipe back, with a muffler.

stainless is a waste on a fourby, chances are you'll cave the exhaust in or crack it somewhere before it rusts.

Any more than $800 youre being ripped off.

My local 4wd specialist wants to charge around 1300.00 for a 2.5" mandrel bend with ceramic ?cat. Seems a lot. I asked him why not 3" and said it can can cause a loss of power if exhaust is actually TOO large. 3" for 4.2TD etc but on my 3.0L CRD he said 2.5 would actually work better.

Anyone got an opinion on 2.5 vs 3" for a CRD ZD30?

Thanks guys!

I got qouted 1700 for stainless 2.5 inch not mandrel bent including extractors.said it had to b stainless cause of the high temp of lpg. Exhaust mob was reccomended by 4wd place ending in system :)

Hence y I havent done it and just welded mine back up.

Is this highway robbery

OK I have just been through all the old threads about 2.5 - 3.0" exhaust for the 3L TD. Seems like opinions are divided, both may have pros and cons. Seems like costs can be as varied as opinions too!

Anyone got a recommendation for getting a custom exhaust at a sensible price in Adelaide?

Redback don't have an outlet in SA unfortunately, and I cant just buy a kit because of my diesel gas (will need some custom bends I think). Anyone tried big outlets like Profix, Midas etc?

all done took about 4 hours only because one bolt on the heat shield would not come off ended up cutting around it. for the effort and money all worth it alot more power mainly in the take off. i would recommend the red back system good value

Does the larger exhaust make a difference to lag/spool-up rate?

big difference it is only 1/2 inch bigger than standard with better flowing cat and muffler if you got the money do it really worth it but dont go 3 inch stick with 2 and 1/2 inch a mate has a 3 inch and mine always was the same as his on take off now mine is 100 times better than his at take off

A very experienced exhaust fitter who has done dyno testing with a nissan dealership told me that a 3" mandral system is a waste of money. His words were.... all it will do is make your car sound like a truck.... aswell as the dont last because the mandrals are made of thinner steel. he says there is no horsepower gain at all. He fitted a 2.5" press bent with a mandral dump pipe, no cat and a hi flo muffler to my 3.0l and the improvement was unbeliveable. And it still sounds like stock truck. Except for a bit more whistle.

Yep, same experience here. Had a 2.5" fitted Monday, dump pipe, no cat, straight through muffler. Can now easily cruise up Mt Oosley in 5 at 90kph with no power loss. Even turned the chip off. Unbelievable what a clear pipe will give from this 3lt engine. Have a sweet turbo purr now as well :) next stop, dyno tune :D
