Gday guys,

as the title says i'm wanting to fit some extractors and larger exhaust system to my dual fuel gq. I know about the performance gains on paper, up to 10% improvement i've heard,

But what i'd like to know is what the differences are like behind the wheel. Can a significant improvement be felt when driving the car? In short, is it worth doing.

I did it and LOVE it. The engine note is much nicer to listen to. I do feel a bit better acceleration and it does like to rev a bit more

I think so it's alot more responsive, motor revs to the redline very easy feels like it's making good power to 4,000rpm where with the factory exhaust reving past 3000rpm was a waiste of time as it didn't feel like it was making any more power, also low down tourqe has defiantly improved not as much changing of gears going up hills.
Fuel economy has improved a little but nothing special, all in all I'm happy with the gains from the exhaust and extractors it's just alot nicer to drive now.

I had mine done $750 extractors with 2.5 inch system in the last 6 months. Because I very rarely go over 3.5k revs fuel figures are slightly better and power not sure.

Worked well on my TD42 too. 3-2-1 extractors, large v8 free flow mid muffler, larger rear pipe (3 inch) and it has improved power...$400 all up.

...i got quoted $1200 for lukey headers, 3in exhaust in 2mm mild steel, 1 flex bellow, and a chambered muffler. where are you guys gettin them done?? and thats not mandrel bent!! anything over 1.6mm has to be conventionaly bent.

i got quoted $900 for mandrel bent 2.5 inch with extractors and hi flow muffler fitted! thought it was a pretty good deal...just gotta save for it

Extractors , free flow muffler and larger diameter exhaust does help it along , but with high ratio like 3.9 you may not notice the difference until the revs build up a bit rather than from take off

My shorty drives so much nicer since the exhaust upgrade, sits at 100kph much easier in the hills and goes like a cut cat in the bush. I got lukey extractors and 2 1/4 mandrel bent system off ebay for $300, it was second hand but in great condition, just gave it a lick of paint and bolted it on!

Hey STIC, with the extractors on the TD42 could you re-fit the heat-sheild thats bolted too the original exhaust manifold? Cause im'e going too fit extractors with a 2 1/2 inch pipe,and thought the heat will be a problem with the aux. battery. Cheers Jeff:)

u can buy kits off ebay! extractors and 2.5 mandrel bent lukey system 4 like 770! thats what i have been lookin at 4 mine

yep worked well on my duel fuel 6 much better mid and low range . best you throw a V8 at it, much better in the long run , cheaper to run and heaps of towing power and frieghtens hell out of the shopping trolley 4WDs

Absolutely worth it, More response, Better note, runs cooler there isnt a bad thing about it!
No drama's not having the heat sheild over the headers?:)

Not sure whether you can refit (can probably rig something up), but i didn't bother.

I have the 24v, so have the other battery over there anyway; i also have an oil bottle (oiler for air con/onboard air setup) over there and no issues with heat...

With mine, i was lucky. The mechanic (Safari specialist) has a set of extractors that he'd ordered for a customer who never came back, so i got em cheap. I had already replaced the middle muffler (one in middle rear, not at the rear) as it was rusted and had holes. I had the rear section from this replaced with 2 1/4 i think with no rear most muffler...much better acceleration from standing start and better revs.

Cheers for that, Will see how hot it gets with them on and weld some bracket onto the headers if i need the shield back. You got a sweet deal there. Im'e getting the Injector pump rebuilt and new injectors,The guy doing it suggested the 2 1/2 inch and he will fiddle with the IP and injectors too suit, So looking forward too it and the old girl will love it nothings been done to IP or injectors for 300,000 K's:):)

Yeah, when he fitted mine he also wound up the pump to match and cleaned the gauze filter too...

It's still no Spec c but it does suprise a few cars at the lights...they've never seen a battleship move so quickly :D
