I have no Idea but if they went to all the trouble of making a different filter for petrol/diesel there must be a reason.

cheers.

i have been told that lf3314 is a super-cession of lf3659. i am currently using the 3314 on my td42 and they are one of the only filters i have found with drainback valves that actually work
yeah true about the drainback valves... I think the LF3314 and LF3659 are the same filter. But the LF3659 is just a shorter filter??

LF3659 is the one Fleetguard recommends for the TD42. I use them and they do have a good working anti drain back valve. Cheers.

LF3659 is the shorter by bout 2 inch's i run the LF3314 on my 94 td42 no problems i chose the longer filter because you would think there is more area obviously i also have the ff5307 for the fuel filter i work for cummins so i get em dirt cheap :)

When I went to QDS I asked for the lf 3659 and he said is it for a patrol. I said yeah for a td42 and that's when he told me that the 3314 is the supercession and that he runs them on his. He said the major difference is that the 3314 has better filtration and also has a pressure bypass valve.

The pressure valve is set at 10 psi though so I don't know whether it bypasses all the time as nissans stock oil pressure gauge is supposed to read at about 3 kg/cm^2 (about 42 psi)

Cheers,
Nic

i would think the 3314 would be better suited to the diesel anyway as they are predominantly dirtier engines requiring better filtration. the only thing at the moment to me is the pressure valve. i will soon be installing an oil pressure gauge in a filter sandwich plate and if that shows higher than 10 psi then i dont think i shall stick with fleetguard
