I lost brake pressure a couple of weeks ago so i took the car off the road. I've just found the time to see what the problem is and its the brake hose going from the axle to the hub is leaking. My dad told me that his patrol did that and there was a recall sent out.

The recall was created in 1996, will it still be valid today?
And how do i check if mine was fix?

After 14 years, I don't think you've got much hope of Nissan doing anything.

I think the recalls are only valid for 10 years. And for the $30 for a new brake hose, or the $90 for a braided one, do you really want to deal with the arses at nissan?

Official government recalls site, linked to Nissan section. There is one for all GQ's over a certain period, but that is rubbing through a hose, not at the joint like it seems you are describing. And my original point still stands.

If you're near Willetton go see Brake Fabricators WA. They made a full braided set for me and it was cheaper than you'd think.
If one side is dodgy chances are the other side is close to failure too. remove the offending hoses and lines without putting any extra bends in and take them in.

If yours was fixed I believe there should be a sticker somewhere, glovebox lid, under the bonnet or in a door shut.

P.S. you fail anyway, you have a LWB. Read the recall properly.

LWB comes under Hardtop And Coil-sprung Cab-chassis Front Brake Hoses Durability

That one is for "Manufactured Between 10 September 1991 And 3 October 1994" which doesn't apply to me cause my build date is 1989

Because it is a safety recall, I think Nissan would have to honour the recall regardless of how old it is.

Providing your vehicle is in the range and has not had the recall carried out already.

But as said above do you really want to deal with Nissan.

Nope, as stated earlier the Department of infrastructure & the ACCC only hold he manufacturers to 10 years after the recall was issued.

Basically, if Nissan can't find the vehicle then via their own database & then NEVDIS then they can't do much more. After 10 years they are not bound to honor the recall.

I am only going by my experience working at a Holden dealership.

We were still carrying out safety recalls on VN commodores in mid 2002 (well after 10 years from recall).

Was told by GM DSM that only after a certain % of vehicles in the affected range have had the recall work carried out can they then close it.

I think you may find that the above statement only means that Nissan doesn't have to search for the vehicles, but if a vehicle is presented to a dealership and hasn't had the recall done and is within the range, then they will still have to carry it out.

I could be wrong, (Has happened once before)

Maybe one of the current Nissan dealership boys/girls could enlighten us?

The obligation ist there for them to honour the recall. There is also a percentage factor. If they satisfy say 95% of the recall within 10 years, with the agreement of the department, the recall can be closed provided they demonstrate they have exhausted all avenues to find the vehilces.

I can remember Holden still fixing VB, VC, VH seat mounts that were cracked for free when I was working at ACT Rego between 2001 & 2004.

What you will find though, as you stated Yendor that most manufacturers still honour the recall for long after they are required to.

I am still in Vehicle Standards but now at the federal level, as a pert of that Vehicle Recalls are in my area.

That one was a real baddie. The front hoses could get sandwiched between the coil springs.
There was no recall for brake hose problems pre 91 because there weren't any problems.
There was a recall for the front panhard bracket mod for pre 91 though, which mine had done.

i went to Nissan today and they said there is no outstanding recalls for this vehicle

So i'm going to a brake specialist next to work to replace both front lines.

Thanks all
