Hey Lads

Just need some help identifying a part on my fuel pump as it has just been fixed after a leak was discovered.

You can see in the photos where the mechanic has put in the blanking plate. My question is what used to be there and what does it do.

When I took the truck in and showed the bloke where it was leaking from he said that it wasn't needed and he'd just remove it a blank it off.

Now it's stopped leaking and missing the part what ever it was it has absolutely ZERO, ZILCH, FUK ALL power down low. Even the slightest hill causes a stall.

Other work done at the same time was a gearbox reco and new clutch, so these surely aren't related but worth a mention just incase. The car is a 95 GQ 2.8 wagon.

Just to clarrify the pictures are of the drivers side of the fuel pump just above the thermostat housing and below the main throttle linkage on the pump.

Maybe Benno will know??? Who am I kidding he will!

Thanks guys

Drew

cant remember what it is for but when i have had two pumps built by mtq and both times (i think it was a vacumm maybe???) they were superseded, was told only on certain models (dont know what they are)it was needed. This was over 5 yrs ago so can only vagily remember.

none of mine have ever had anything in there. AFAIK It's an access cover more than a blanking plate for something missing.
I think you might have the timing retarded by a tooth or so.

Mmmmmm... food for thought. Maybe a trip into a diesel specialist could be an idea this week. Thanks anyway

What year 2.8's did you have?? If what old smokey is saying is true then maybe it's possible mine is an earlier or later model, it's 95. As for the access cover versus blanking plate, it's a blanking plate, something WAS there now there isn't. The timing cannot be retarded the pump was never removed when the job was done, got it sorted on the car.

Where's Benno when you need him???
