We end up with the people we love as opposed with everyone
There were more of them sold than any other model. There are probably more of them currently on the roads as well. Certainly in my travels I see way more Y61s than either Y60s or Y62sAlso, why is the Y61 the most prominent Patrol in the new banner?
They will try to promote whatever people are most likely search for. This site is most likely found by people looking to mod or fix their car. Most Y62s I see are box stock and if they need fixing are unlikely to be fixed by their owners. The exact opposite is true for Y60s and Y61s. In 10 years I expect the situation to be quite different. If we really are trying to be global, shouldn't we be promoting the Y62??
The regular chatter that fills GD will continue to dwindle as more an more of this occurs on FB but most visitors to this forum are guests looking for tech info, not people having a yarn. FB is hopeless for people looking for tech info. Try and find a post a year old let alone a decade old on FB. The info that exists there is not organised into topic specific threads like a forum so finding discussion specific to your problem is difficult. Forums like this that are based on a backbone of user generated technical support will live until the vehicles they are about fade from popularity.Mate if you had been taking any notice over the years, all forums have had big hits over those years, they are dying and we are no different,
Every other forum I'm on don't even have a photo in the banner so I guess having anything promotes us slightly more than the others. I have thought it'd be nice for it to occasional change though like the top photos do on the home page. Also, why is the Y61 the most prominent Patrol in the new banner? This photo came about through negotiation as the original Xenforo update pic of a Y62 does not represent our core membership, we went through pics and sent many to Verticalscope staff, and after deliberation they found the one we have now, It wouldn't matter what pic we put up someone would be P'd off about it. Core membership is what it was all about. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that the pic could periodically change.Every other forum I'm on don't even have a photo in the banner so I guess having anything promotes us slightly more than the others. The other night I was going through figures and there were 500+ 'Guests' online, we haven't seen those numbers in quite a while, a percentage of those will join and a percentage of those will stick around for a while and if they like the experience they will stay, exactly like many of us did. Under the AI system that is currently in use (this is under discussion as well because we are having issues) when they signup it is instant recognition (just like fakebook), Verticalscope do their own data checking and some forums on this system have seen a 40% rise in traffic, we as a small forum are not seeing that but there is a distinct increase. The regular chatter that fills GD will continue to dwindle as more an more of this occurs on FB but most visitors to this forum are guests looking for tech info, not people having a yarn. A bloke could be assured a big heap of his favorite cold beverages for a step by step on doing the ZD to TD conversion. I know just about all the info needed can be found here on the forum but to have it all in one place, including a list of everything required to the job, would be an absolute asset. I'm just about to take on the conversion and I'm finding the whole thing a bit overwhelming. Depending on where I look there's a bit of conflicting info out there. I suppose at the end of the day nothing worth having comes easy.Yeah I was going to do a thread in the conversion section, the step by step definitive guide to converting a patrol from ZD30 to a TD42, since it’s the most common conversion that gets done. A culmination of what I’ve learnt from doing my own, and sifting through countless threads on it, all centralized in one thread and basically a collection of info from dozens of people here. I have dozens and dozens of photos, a parts list for the whole job, part numbers of all the parts you’ll need and prices you would expect to pay, exact length and thread sizes for every last nut and bolt etc etc but I don’t think it’s worth the trouble. I realized this the other day when a bloke was complaining there was no guides on the intergooglefaceweb to shimming his patrol LSD. I knew there was, I wrote one up with heaps of pics a couple of years ago, but it took a fair bit of carefully worded searching to find it for him. Then I thought about it, I’ve also written very time consuming threads on rebuilding winches, chopping patrols in to dual cabs, electrical wiring, reverse/work light wiring, fixing leaking/oil spitting air lockers, rebuilding brake calipers, and whatever else, but you’d never know as this sort of stuff is too hard to find. As far as I know only one or two of them are in the archives, that’s if archive links even still work with the new software, but as far as I can tell no one actually uses the archives anyway. But we have stickies for links to ARBs website for air locker parts lists, geez you’d never find that on google, very handy lol
Then there’s the fact that, with this new abortion of forum software, if I zoom in on a relevant part of a pic and screen shot it, I can’t upload that pic because it says ‘file too large’, even though it’s now lower res haha! Not to mention sometimes pics take minutes to load. Or if I did it through tapatalk (far more efficient) then there’s a risk of the pics disappearing altogether, like what happened in the electrical 101 thread.
Having said all that, if I spent hours and hours doing a conversion thread, is there anyone left here to read it? All you hear is crickets most days lol
The OP is right, it’s a ghost town compared to a couple of years ago, why spend hours on something no one will read?
As for younger folk using FB, they don’t know any different I guess, forums are for ‘old farts’ I guess? How many users here under 30? Even 40? Especially if you discount the one hit wonders, ask one question and clear off.
Still, it would be nice to think all the info on here (unparalleled) would be retained for future googlers as patrols are bought by the next generation of 4wders...so hopefully the last one to leave, leaves the light on haha!
