alot of people use the zd30 air box (3L GU) it sits behind the passenger side head light, pretty basic to fit, just need to elongate the holes already in your gaurd

Not sure how you did it, I didn't have to elongate any holes, it *just* fits without modification
mine did fit, but the inlet wasnt sitting straight to the gaurd, didnt take much to make it sit straight
How did you joint it to your snorkel? Cut the flange and use a rubber joiner/elbow?
yeah the flange was already cut off when I got it, I just used a straight bit blue silicon pipe

do you have a pic on how it sits?
Thanks fellers I might have to look into this
sorry about some of the pic sizes :S
Hey Marin, can you get a battery back in there too? what did you pay for the GU TD42Ti box mate?

I like that it exits out the top rather than the bottom
I no longer run the GU airbox, I know run custom for more airflow...

BUT

I think you can get a second battery in there as well, although I disagree with putting second battery trays around the overflow bottle as they crack the inner guards. I run my second and third batteries in the back of my shorty.
at the time I paid about $160 from the wreckers for a TD42T box, then I learnt that the 3ltr box had a better airflow through the lids so again paid $160 for a 3 ltr box. About 2 years ago now.
I had a thread up before the GRC but it was lost. I put a ZD30 air box into the Safari with OEM dual battery and overflow bottle, didn't have to move anything...just cut a bit of the battery tray away.

Fitted into the holes that were there without any surgery needed and joined to the snorkel with a reducing rubber joiner.

Hey mate could you post some picks of you set up. I went out and bought a zd30 air box yesterday. It either hits radi cap, sits to high and hits the bonnet, cant get all 4 clips in a spot where they can easy be opened/closed or it dosent line up with whole in gaurd...
alot of people on forum say it bolts streight up...mmm what am i doing wrong.

Can do...it pretty much bolted straight in for me and thats in a Safari. I trimmed the battery tray abit. The top of the airbox touches the bonnet when closing as well...just - I think it connects with the soft lining more than anything.

I'll go searching and post em up shortly.

This is the reducing joiner used for the snorkel outlet to the airbox inlet.

Not with a decent made tray they dont. ;) Mines had one there for 20 years, the last 4 years with my own made tray.
i too have done this mod, I run a GU turbo on my 4.2 safari with a TD42 GU box and lid. It all bolted straight in, the only thing i needed to mod was my factory 2nd batter tray, just chopped a bit away so the battery tray away.

I used a bit of silicone hose and 2 hose clamps to connect the airbox to my safari snorkel. Bit of a tight fit but all fits in there snug now.
