Hi crew,
I currently have an 89 LWB GQ TB42 carby running on duel fuel (impco system put in last year).
I love the beast and am learning about it all the time. However, I am chasing some more power for hills, overtaking and just a bit more guts. I predominantly drive it on the road but do occasional camping trips that justify having the 4X4.
Anyhoo, I am looking into two options right now...
1. Buying this 400 chev conversion:
Message - Patrol 4x4 Classifieds - Nissan Patrols, Parts, Accessories
and having someone do the swap as I dont have the know how.
2. Fitting an AXT turbo kit. This is the response i got from them, seems crazy expensive but:
"Hi,
The turbo hardware kit is priced at $3500 inc GST.
The intercooler kit is priced at $2500 inc GST.
We charge $650 inc GST for basic installation at our Dandenong workshop for these 2 items.
For your distributor. I would recommend sourcing this yourself from an auto parts recycler, as this would be the most viable option.
For a Gas Research System, a full underbonnet kit is worth approx $1900 inc GST.
For us to do Ignition and Gas, we would need the vehicle to quote on this correctly.
You can run the Impco System, however you will need to modify this, depending on boost pressures and the actual system.
Normally, on straight LPG, with an intercooler, you can safely run approx 8-10PSI without any problems and this should make 50-60% more torque and power over standard.
Straight LPG is really the only option if you want the vehicle to pass a test, however I would not be able to guarantee any pass, as these engines are "dirty" even in standard trim...
Regards,
Andrew"
So with this information I guess my question is which will end up cheaper to do and which would make the car a better drive for my purposes?
Appreciate any advice on which direction to take and other options than the AXT package to turbo it?
Sorry for the long post.
Cheers.
