Yeah I really wanna know what ppl have done in the past and what the weakest links are .... And what to look for .... This is the first patrol I have had and the first diesel I have modified so I'm really tryin to do as much research as I can and find out as much as I can from other ppls experiences
remember diesel injector pumps are very clunky mechanical things. Even the first Motec ever made with it's screwdriver "programming" is more configurable than a diesel fuel pump. The pump, up to a point, needs to be sized to the application. Think of it as a combined single barrel carby and distributor. now with the varying amount of boost you can put in a TD42 what you're asking for is one of those you can fit on a 202, 253 and a 308 and it has to go like stink on all three. You'd probably get it driveable on them but its not going to be optimal.
So if you want a pump which can handle everything you can throw at it then you'd better throw all of your money at the rest of the package too.
You need to study a bit more and come up with a budget and build plan (in that order).
That is unless you have $30k to throw at it, in which case you're gonna blow the damn thing up if you aren't experienced with tuning one right at the edge of survivability.
In order the weakest points are:
Wallet.
clutch.
front CVs (but only if you have a front locker and reverse and/or turn tightly with it engaged.)
everything else is good for four hundred horsepower with sensible driving technique and sensible wheels.
(now I notice your signature... Budget a few grand to build a front diff. cvs, hubs, brakes, bracing)
That's about all the advice you'll get for free, go searching and reading there's a lot of info on here, and go see some experts and buy some stuff off them and they will provide more guidance.
We've got a clutch we're testing in a very abusive situation shortly, I roasted a super heavy duty one. With those wheels if you're serious with power you're gonna need something special.
