Looking at a vehicle for our inlaws and came across a 97 Pajero V6 jap import today with low klms (for the age) in a tidy condition

I believe it was imported around 2005

It has lots of stuff that the Aust deivered ones probably didn't have such as rear aircond, auto aircond, ajustable shocks, sunroof, etc and this concerns me as i know with Toyota grey imports that the extra stuff can cause drama's with parts availability if they need to be repaired

Wondering if anyone has thoughts or experiences with this model as far as reliability goes with 100,000 klms on the clock and expecially how helpful Mitsubishi dealers are when you ask them for parts for a grey import

Also no record of a 90k service being carried out so not able to verify if the timing belt has been replaced

Wondering if anyone on the forum has had one of these & any thoughts would be appreciated

Regards Don

Yep

I suggested replacing it regardless for piece of mind but this will add to the price that is already at the top of what they can afford and it also will need a set of tyres shortly

It is a 3500cc and when belts are due on these (i am sure it is normally replaced at the 90k not 100k as these are on 15k intervals) do you normally just need a belt of do they need idlers ,water pump, etc

Not sure where you are based but Chadstone Mitsubishi in Melbourne had no problem supplying parts for imports.

My brother bought a 1993 SWB grey import with the 3.5 liter motor; it has adjustable shocks and 40mm of lift at the flick of a button not to mention lots of other electrical goodies.

Cheers

FWIW i'd never buy another grey import. Too much trouble to insure if nothing else!

I think that's changed now days.

With my brothers Pajero we rang Just Car insurance and they had the exact model listed on their database. 3rd party mind you but being an import was no problem at all.

most dealers that are worth a penny should have no dramas getting parts as basically all parts are the same as aus delivered ones apart from the non aussie things but you still shouldnt have to many dramas getting them.
and belt is done at 100k its done outside of a normal service and it should also be due for platnuim plugs. they are also due at 100k.
is it a sohc or dohc?
things to check are rear inner spring bumpstops always flogging out, valve stem seals and guides though being only 100k old shouldnt be to bad. oil leaks are always a killer on any mitsi v6. and make sure all the 4wd system works 100% and try this a few times as its pretty expensive to fix if not working right. apart from that they are a pretty good beast. i dont mind them, certainly not my first choice of 4wd but not bad all the same.

also with the belt, id be replacing all seals and water pump, but just check the tensioner for signs of leaking and same with the tensioner pulleys. most of the ones ive done at work are still going good at the second belt change at 200k so should be alright at 100k but again just check or get them checked first.
oh and if doing a tensioner believe it or not but genuine is normally cheaper than aftermarket for these things. well the places i have rang thru work are dealer then genuine.
