Temporarily remove the airfilter, and see if there is a marked improvement, if so, get a new air filter. If not....... Carry on looking at fuel problems.

asumming your injectors are in good conditions (hard to tell untill you get them removed) there is an adjustment on the injector pump which will allow you to adjust the fuel settings.
I dont know much more than that but i know its possible as i had mine adjusted as it was overfueling and blowing to much smoke after the injector pump and injectors were done.

You need to speak to a injector place and they will suggest the injectors first i would think.

Toyota sent out a bulletin a few years ago that said when a customer complained about excessive smoke the first thing to do was to rev it about 20 times from idle to near max revs (parked and in neutral) to blow out any accumulated soot in the exhaust system & then check how much smoke it was blowing

Costs nothing to do and worth a try to see if it makes any difference

Regards Don
