Hi all, needing some assistance from fellow patrolers. I have a gu iv TD42 that is being a pain in the $&"?, when you go to start it it doesn't fire not always though ( mainly for me and my family and never for nissan). It all started about 2 months back after going on a mild 4wd with a few water crossings no deeper then 500mm, firstly the alternator went so on went a new one, then it seemed as the glow plugs were not working so off to Nissan it went. Nissan checked it over and said glow plugs were fine, so the family and I go away for Christmas upon returning stop at local shopping centre for 15mins head back out to the patrol and turn the key and No Fire. The car turns over fine just no fire( had noticed on the dash on trip home the red light on top of the dash on( where as it normally flashes). Car gets towed to Nissan only to find they put the key in and it starts normally, Nisan check car over and say no fault codes could be a one off thing. New years day take car tolandcruiser park with friends while teaching the other half how to go up tracks she stalls it (oh well restart it and try again) but no start, after having 5 mins to cool of disconnect both batterys and reconnect car starts fine. Leave landcruiser park to take it home get back home stop off at hungry jacks for tea, car won't start again disconnect batterys but won't start this time, turn key on and off a few times still won't start, after about 15 mins of trying key on off to see if it fires it does, take back to Nissan leave it there for a few day hoping it does it for them, but it doesn't. After Nissan saying no fault codes and it starts everytime fine I ask anything it could be mech says could be key reader, put new key reader in and it's still doing it, the keys
have been checked and pass, it's has done it for my auto elec when he put new battery in and he found there was no power at injector pump soliniod while it was doing it, any ideas would be great

sounds like your nats hates you. . . . for me it has to be a electronic based issue. something like your immobilizer not disarming properly.

NATS for sure, common issues with the TD42Ti's.

The next on the list is the nats module but it's not cheap, trying to get some feedback before I give this one the nod, Is it something that needs to be replace or disconnected?

Digging this one up from the past because a mate is having a similar issue with an 07 GU ZD30 DX.

Immobilizer light flashing when the key is removed
Immobilizer light on solid when key is inserted and rotated to start and engine turns over but doesn't start.

I'm thinking immobilizer problem but need to know what to check to confirm.

The little black box on the back of the injector pump will be the problem. I have bypassed them before, hopefully someone will be able to help with diagnosing for you.

Being an 07 ZD30 the problem is more then likely the IMMU sensor around the ignition switch.

Do you have a second key you can try?

Thanks Yendor, that's exactly what it was, now to figure out whether to rejoin the thin copper wire that has an air gap or replace the entire coil. :banghead:

I've had a poor connection to the fuel cut-off solenoid on the injection pump give me a few headaches, cured my problem by carefully cleaning the contacts in the plug that connects to the pump.

Patrol engines won't start

Hi Guys. Not sure this is relevant or not, but I had 2.8 6 cyl patrol that did very similar things. Only after it got warm it wouldn't start. Take it to the mechanics and it would be fine every time. Turned out to be the injector pump. Cost $3000 to put in a non genuine pump. **** of an engine. Sold it not long after and got a 4.2 patrol. Had no issues with the 4.2 other than it randomly shudders on switch off, think they it "over run". Have to stall the vehicle or switch it back on and try again to shut down. Not sure why this happens - has any one heard of that issue?
